    ReUnion Brewing - IPA, out of Coralville, IA. Really surprised by how good this is. Super fruity and balanced with a full mouthfeel. Yet another good Iowa hoppy beer.

    Going with a bourbon barrel aged maple vanilla imperial stout from BarrelHouse...

    Kicks up roasted dark malt aromas are suffused with vanilla, maple, bourbon, and oak notes... A stout like this can easily be too sweet, but this one has a drying, mild bittersweetness - instead of being a sugar-bomb, it shows great restraint... Roasted malts present typical cocoa and coffee suggestions, with ample vanilla, maple, and bourbon flavors - best of all is the oak barrel element, drying and airing the beer out... I am sometimes disappointed in the body of a barrel-aged, high abv stout if it is too thin, and though this beer does have a relatively light weight, it feels just right and the bourbon barrels come through very nicely... Despite potential trappings of a heavy, sweet, boozy beer, this is a refined and graceful sipper...

    So I'm gonna be sippin' the other half of that bottle while I clean the living room in preparation for tomorrow's decorating (ugh), and not too long after (hopefully) it'll be turkey time...

    Happy Thanksgiving to my brothers and sisters in brews! First ever Xocoveza...very complex, ice cold so going to work it slowly. Funny, we're at a hotel an hour from our house. The girls want to visit Disney Springs and City Walk at night and drink up.....Uber and short ride back to the hotel. Cheers dear friends!

    I put a cap on the Black Gold. I wanted to compare that to this beer. As expected, this beer is as amazing as it has always been. But, it feels like watching Mitchell Trubisky, Javier Baez, and Zack LaVine play, when you used to Aaron Rodgers, Christian Yelich, and Giannis Antetokounmpo. We are just doing it better, a bit to the north.
