Bourbon County 2018

Slept in and went out an hour ago. Got everything but prop, vanilla and reserve. Also got a 2017 coffee

The sticker shock is real though, I almost passed on bramble but figured I'd grab one.

 

Having vanilla now at durty nellies. Agree it’s not so good. Too much vanilla and it does taste artificial. Comes off as almost medicinal. Pales in comparison to the previous vanilla.

Were you right behind us at Woodridge? We were the ones with the ice fishing shanty and grill. Lol.

 

Vanilla has a great aroma, and the feel is unchanged, but the flavor is incomplete. The vanilla, chocolate, barrel, and base don't quite play nice together.
On the other hand, the orange is exactly what they were looking for. Candied orange peel coated in dark chocolate. All match perfectly. I had to have one to confirm that I never liked that combination. But props (screw your puns) to the brewery for hitting this flavor combination.

 

They used real vanilla per the brewery I think they just added way too much

Yeah I don’t doubt they used real vanilla, there’s just too much. I think vanilla is one of those flavors that pairs great with a bourbon barrel stout, just need to be a little more in the background.

Midnight orange is...interesting. I kinda hated it the first sip or two. But then, it’s almost like the shock wore off and I got what they were going for.

 

Yeah I bought 2 regular and 2 variants for $70 total. I won't be coming back next year. Only got in line on a whim because I was heading to a neighboring business

 

Anyone know of a store where vanilla is sitting around? I struck out at Jewel

You would think but, I guarantee when I look into trading people are requesting absolute nonsense for it.

I think it has more to do with the product itself. There were a few opportunities to sample the lineup before Friday and determine if it’s worth waiting for. I’m not sure the demand/enthusiasm was high this year…

 

I missed out by one person on the Reserve at 14.99 here in Colorado. Got 3 or the BCBS, but struck out on the rest.

 

BrewBound had an article where they were talking about how GI employees were getting rashes from using so much shredded Madagascar Vanilla beans.

 

These stories are why I'm keeping a little hope that, as it mellows, Vanilla might end up improving.
