The justification is that it is highly rated, folks trip over themselves to get it, and it would probably still sell out at $30+. I did the rounds at the local stores today, and a majority of folks choose Vanilla if told they can only get one variant. Don't forget the ground unicorn horn - that shit's expensive, and tastes like vanilla and smiles.

Last year I got lucky to purchase the coffee variant. Opening it that night.. thoroughly enjoyed it. !! This year was vanilla. If I went to the store 1 hour earlier I would have gotten a orange variant also.
I had to get back to work. So I feel like I made out OK.....

I am drinking the vanilla right now. It’s fantastic. I have had some Christmas cookies with it. And now I’m about to try it with a Recees. Lol. Salute!!

Can’t imagine it’s $12 better than the regular, but if you’re willing to fork over the money - enjoy!

Craft Beer Cellar in Nashua, NH had a very small supply of Midnight Orange, Vanilla and regular stout. First come first serve.

There are a lot of mixed reviews on the variants, but having had them all on tap, I liked most of them.

Midnight Orange really isn't my favorite, but I'm not much of a Chocolae-Orange fan.

Bramble was very jammy and had solid raspberry notes. Out of a bottle, I'd guess it'll be a bit thicker and even more enjoyable.

Regular tasted a bit thin, but I tend to notice a bit more thickness out of the bottle.

Vanilla was very very tasty and I echo other people's thoughts that, with a bit of time, it could become absolutely excellent.

Good to know. Haven’t tried any of mine yet. Curious if anyone has another other feedback from trying the variants? What about the wheatwine and barleywine?

Well. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but.... cracked a regular bcbs this morning with breakfast. Tasted like a sour.... smh. The vanilla last night was great though. This one was infected, I’m pretty pissed. I bought a whole case of it ...

I also had both of those.

For what it is, the wheatwine was pretty solid. Some caramel, light pineapple, and light-medium barrel.

To me, the coffee barleywine was very imbalanced. The roast in the coffee overpowered the caramel that I dig so much in barleywines. It was a tasty beer, but I was hoping for a bit more balance.

For those who ended up scoring bottles of 2018 what are your overall thoughts, if you consumed some already? Better than 2017 on regular? Are the variants worth it? Just curious as to what everyone is thinking for this year.
    Cheers

Why would they be presumably "thicker" in the bottle vs keg?
