May be I got a bad batch. Celebration is one of my all time favorites...

Had another American craft pilsner tonight, and it had me thinking.

Why do all American craft pilsners have to taste so "buzzy"? No malt flavor, just a generic stinging grassy or somewhat piney taste on a small bed of hay. I don't get why this kind of beer is so popular.

Treehouse has the most overrated IPAs. Just had a whole bunch under 3 weeks old and nothing impressed me in the slightest.

Two things. Stop calling them "craft pilsners". There are only pilsners.

    Okay, just one thing.

Had a durian in Malaysia. The most mind-boggling thing in this world, to me, is how people consume those vile garbage dumps disguised as fruit

How else would you distinguish a Pilsner made by a brewery calling itself craft? There needs to be some categorization to differentiate it from a Pilsner shipped from Germany or the Czech Republic, or the macro lagers that call themselves Pilsners.

They're all beer, and all pilsners. Personally I think the water has a lot to do with it - but I could be wrong. Supposedly Victory's brewing water has a very similar composition to water in Bavaria, which may be why (IMO) most of their German beers are so darn good

English ales made in America also suffer the same problem.

All breweries brew beer. There is no such thing as a craft brewery. You know this. I know this. we all know this.

I had sworn off TH earlier this year but was back in Charlton last month because my wife bought me a gift card. The IPAs are muddled and nondescript. The suspected hops (Galaxy, Mosaic, etc) did not highlight their respective characteristics. No aromatic punch or distinctive flavor.

SR-71 (2018) was terrible. Had it at a birthday bash share where the host had graciously got a bottle, among endless amounts of other epic beers. SR-71 def had acetaldehyde, that green apple like note. Wasn't very good at all... Give it blind to anyone and I bet you people would have dumped it. Yet everyone else in attendance (prob 10 other people) all going crazy over it, giving it 4.5-5's... Funny what hype can do.

You know, I'm someone who started off hating west coast hops and ales, but compared to the alternatives, find myself running towards them. Light body, tropical fruits, don't seem to be my style at all, though I thought I'd prefer them at one time.

I'll repeat, because for some reason my response disappeared.

What would you call a brewery "crafting" amazing beer in the days before "craft" became a synonym for "beer I like, because I like good beer"?

This probably isn't that controversial but I am convinced there are many world class hyped beers that people would rate much lower if they were tasting blind. I've personally seen a couple guys who are huge craft beer fans drink a Mornin Delight blind and say it was "just OK" and rate it sub-4 and when it was revealed what the beer was they couldn't even believe it. I'm sure if they knew what they were drinking going into it they would have scored it higher. There is way too much subconscious bias when people know they are drinking an expensive and hyped beer.

Was just at a Black Friday tasting where there were a lot of beers from very hyped breweries. One beer, in particular, stood out for me. It was an barrel aged imperial stout from a brewery that has a very renowned barrel program. All I could taste was soy sauce. Everyone else was all like "Oh . . . . it's SO fudge-y!" I think they would have had different opinions if they hadn't seen the label first.
