So I did the create your own bourbon county event tonight and had a couple takeaways:

    1) It is impossible to recreate prop 2013 in 30 mins, probably impossible if given 2 years

    2) It is near impossible to create any variant in 30 mins that doesn’t involve cinnamon, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Mexican chocolate, etc.

    3) Goose Island doesn’t have a name for the unaged stout used for bourbon county but they are aware us outsiders refer to it as cook county stout. Was told it has never been available outside of small private events

    4) W Fulton Market between Wood and Wolcott might be considered the best brewing street when you combine GI and Intelligentsia

    5) Goose Island is never going to call me for my ideas on what the next prop should be

I despise this practice and it is illegal in U.S. its called "per se illegal tying arrangement". There was one place in my area doing this I contacted Goose they said their sales team would be reaching out to the distributor for this store.

Again, if it is good for the Goose....
The sales team immediately ordered the distributor to give that retailer a complementary InBev branded beverage refrigerator and thanked them profusely with two winks and a nudge. Carlos Brito will gladly pay $1 in fines for every $100 InBev makes using unethical practices .

Also, didn't Binny's due this on Black Friday forcing people who wanted BCBS to spend $200+ on a bottle package?

I think this is probably considered bundling and not the term used above, but you're right, in effect it's doing the same thing.

Also, even if the bundling is just as illegal, it's very possible that Binny's LP could get around a customer demanding to only buy a specific bottle by saying "OK, that's fine, come back at 9AM when we open for realz and we'll sell you any individual bottles you want that still remain."

I'm sure they were quick to make that call....

It's not illegal. Shady? sure. Illegal? No. tying arrangements are way more complicated than "you gotta buy a regular bcbs to get a variant bcbs"

Does anyone know if Jake Melnick's still has anything on tap? They haven't updated beermenus since Sunday.

    From the American Bar Association:
"A key element of tying is the forced purchase of a second distinct commodity; in other words, purchasing the tied product is mandatory when purchasing the tying product. What distinguishes illegal tying from legal bundling is the seller's exploitation of its control over the tying product to force the buyer into the purchase of a tied product that the buyer either did not want at all or might have preferred to purchase elsewhere on different terms."

The Midnight Orange, or whatever it’s called, is making another round of stores in SE MI. Not sure what to make of that. But happy to grab an extra bottle.

I believe what is quoted above is why you can (in some states) buy alcohol in Costco without a membership....it goes along the same concept of having to purchase something to get something. So I'm sure the rules vary state to state. I hate this practice as well, but I will say of all I've seen as long as that 2017 BC wasn't way overpriced, it wouldn't bother me to have to buy it to get 2018. At least its the same beer. I walk out of stores that make you buy other garbage that won't move off of shelves, old IPAs, pales, or any other beer I have no interest in drinking.

I hope this isn't too dumb a question but my cousin just moved to Chicago a couple weeks ago and I forgot to ask her to look around for Prop and Reserve for me. Is that even a thing? Would she randomly stumble into either anywhere? Any suggestions on where to look?

1- There are still releases announced
2- No one ever knows when random subsequent drops occur, but given the quantities out this year I would imagine it should be fairly common to stumble upon this stuff.
3- If people could tell you where to randomly stumble upon this stuff, it wouldn't be random.....

Haha true, we'll keep the random part to the people. Anyways I'll just tell her to keep an eye out.

If I were you, I'd keep an eye on this thread (and maybe Untappd). They're usually my best sources, and I think a lot of us feel that way.

Where do you look on Untappd? There's also https://www.reddit.com/r/chicagobeer/

On Untappd you'd just follow the beers themselves (I forget if you can get notifications when a place gets them, but you can definitely get notifications if you follow a specific beer shop). Beermenus will alert you if followed beers go on tap/on sale at a place that uses beermenus, and obviously people here will sometimes be gracious enough to let people know the same info.

Reddit probably works well, too, I just don't have much experience with r/beer.
