I finally tried a longtime want in Kern Citra this last year - I was underwhelmed. Did I get a bad batch, I thought? Oh well. Anyway, fast forward to two days ago, and I see it on tap at a local bar. I was already one deep at home, and weighed my options at going out for it - I passed, thinking I’d go the next day if it was still on. It wasn’t. But what do you know? I’m still alive and the world is still spinning.

Don't buy the hype. Beer's are like buses: there's always another one coming around.

Beers come and go. Even great beers.
Friends, like you spoke of, do not.
    No second guessing here.
    The right choice was made.

Apparently a place I'm driving past for lunch after work has Founders CBS on tap but don't want to be stuck in a small town with not much to do until I can drive again. Don't care how good a beer is if I need to wait an hour to drive I'll drink something I have at home

There was a Tilquin tap takeover at a bar within walking distance of my place. They lasted a full week on tap and I'm ashamed to say, I never got a single one of the pours. I didn't realize how limited some of their stuff was until afterwards.

    Dammit.

OP here. In the end I got the best of both worlds. Went out with a friend to Other Half last night. After several rounds of drinking, we went to another place to get food. They had ZD! It was delicious! My only regret is that it was the nightcap drink instead of my first beer of the day.

I have a lot of different thoughts on the subject but one that strikes me immediately is that sometimes enjoying the beer is more important than enjoying the company! What I mean by that is, I love drinking good beer with friends, including my best friend and constant beer companion (my wife), but with her and a baby and long commutes and managing 50 people at work and my family and in laws...some of my very favorite moments are those rare times I open something special alone, or get out to a bar or brewery by myself to catch something rare or new or unusual. All alone! And not have to talk to anyone! Just sayin’.

I passed up quad barrel Baptist last night. The store jacked the price up to 25 (from an already pricey 22.50 I paid elsewhere for one) It is a great beer, but that owner charges too much for any popular beer. He knows what he has and squeezes every dime out of it, real endearing.

Zombie Dust is very tasty, but it really sticks out as a great beer to some people due to the local competition IMO. In NYS high expectations of that beer would likely result in disappointment for anyone familiar with the local IPA scene.

Is it basically their two hearted? Haven't had zombie dust yet, not that I'd trade or search for it anyway.

IIRC from when I brewed ZD clones back in the day, it is an intricate malt bill with all citra hops, and neutral yeast. Haven't had one recently, full disclosure, but had plenty back when I traded a lot, and it is very good, just delicious. Now there are so many great beers fresh and easily available here in NYS that I would put significantly ahead of ZD. No one in NYS need have FOMO about ZD.

Reminds me of brews I've sampled at multiple Funky Buddha brewery tours that if I had bought would drain pour. There's always another day, that's why I stay away from FB on MBCP Release Day.

I was in a local bottle shop yesterday and walked by 4 cases of CBS just sitting there at 27.99 a bottle. I had absolutely no problem walking past them. It was easy peasy. All I can think about was how much money I just saved. Not that long ago CBS was an urban legend. Now at that price point they can keep it :stuck_out_tongue:

I saw it for 30 bucks at one store, ridiculous. Then I saw it for the same price on a bottle list at a restaurant, but bottle lists are always pricier. I think the base store price is 25, but I won't even buy it for that. Not many beers are worth a buck an oz.

I'd never had CBS before, so when it hit NY last year I splurged and bought 2 bottles. Drank one then and saved the other to drink this winter, so I had no urge to buy this year's batch. Of course, having bought one bottle each of this year's BCS lineup (7 bottles) had something to do with it too. Won't be doing that next year either. :grimacing:

Passing on Prop 13? That was a mistake! Passing on Zombie Dust, just fine.

Not exactly an intentional "pass it up" but more of a miss. I was passing through Richmond and stopped at Mekong (my 3rd time there). Naturally I was scanning the vast list of great beers looking for The Anwswer and Veil options (since I'm not from the area) and ordered some of those. I was driving long interstate travel, so I had to shut it down, but scanning over the beer list after my great meal, I noticed they had Allagash Coolship Red on the taplist. This has been a beer that I've been hunting for over 5 years. I was kicking myself for not reading the menu more closely as I would have ordered that as my first option. But the 2 beers I did have were amazing so it wasn't a total loss.
