Am I missing it or is Curmudgeon not being brewed in 2019?

Grabbed some just today. Nearly $30, more expensive than expected, but it's a Christmas present for my granddad, so it's no big deal.

It is possible but doubtful in my opinion. It could possibly be #2 or #3 of the barrel aged series which are unannounced but I think the smart money says you don't see it in 2019 and #2 and #3 are going to be something we haven't seen in awhile.

Intersting take. Is KBS not as good as it used to be to you? I walked into a local bottle shop and three cases were sitting on the floor. Surprise drop at $24 per 4-pack, I was very excited to see that. It's a great beer that is readily available (most people can buy as much as they would want without significant effort) at a decent price and format. I've had it on tap three times. All this year. I had never seen it on tap before. Under these circumstances why would I care about cult status. Cult status doesn't make it taste different.

Correct that KBS is as good as ever, with slight variations year-to-year, even though the cult status has largely worn off. Problem is that it's shelf-turding in many markets due to increased production, decreasing demand, and the same old high cult pricing. That's not sustainable. Decreasing production won't restore cult status. About the only options are pull it off the market for a couple of years, add variants, or decrease the price $4 or more.

Am I missing something here? Compared to CBS and BCBS, KBS is a bargain. And I actually like it better than CBS.

It's been an ongoing argument on these forums; someone says there are other BA stouts that are nearly as good or as good as KBS for lots less money. Then inevitably someone says "name some" and when someone does, then arguments ensue. My subjective opinion is that KBS is overpriced for me, since there are other BA stouts I like as well for $4 or less a bottle. Granted, KBS is cheaper per ounce than CBS in bombers, though wouldn't be much cheaper if CBS were sold here in 4-packs - and CBS is much better. BCBS is lots more per ounce, but is lots better. Again my opinion.

To me, Sunday morning stout is probably the best coffee BA stout for it's combo of price and quality. I saw a 4 pack last week but assume the coffee has faded a bit. I'll definitely stock up next release though. CBS is just priced to be a curiosity purchase and nothing more.

I think this is what @bbtkd was trying to say. Lots of people say there is better and cheaper when what they mean is almost as good for less money.

When asked to name one that is better and cheaper people start throwing around a lot of qualifiers.

With the fact that KBS has increased availability one would be hard pressed to name one that bests KBS in all three catagories.

Hopefully Founders will get the format of CBS right next year. Then we can start complaining only about price.

Price aside I still think IMO KBS is the best BA Coffee Stout available. And it's so far from a shelf turd here it's here and gone very quickly. I'd love to stumble across a few this far after release. We either A: get shit fir volume or B: there's a ton of truck chasers here. A combo of both, the distributor allocated special releases based on volume sold for the year, so it's spotty and no one gets a lot because honkers or 312 doesn't sell. And there's truck chasers.

No argument with any of that. My assessment on SMS was based on value more than saying it was better than anything. Best depends on the person being asked.

Make a trip to southeast MI
Both Oakland & Macomb counties have cases sitting on the floors at most liquor/beer stores. Most are decent priced others are jacked. $23.99 - $35.99 know a few places with '17 still chilling.
Come to Michigan! Help us clear these shelves :stuck_out_tongue: :beers:

Less than $4/bottle for a BA stout is pretty rare. Which beer are you referring to?
