Stopped in yesterday and limited out on all the BA jones dogs, i think its funny pipweworks doesnt get much love for trading, which is fine by me as I'll drink them myself, but IMHO pipeworks makes some solid BA stouts with good pricing that blow away some of these so called whales.

We can only hope it never takes off in trading because it would be more difficult to obtain bottles from the brewery then. We'd start seeing people lining up much more frequently for the reason of obtaining bottles for trades as opposed to personal consumption.

My personal expectations are that we’ll remember these as the easy days starting in 2020. When they’re having releases at the brewpub the crowds will grow and the hype will start to match the quality

God, I hope not. It's nice to have one brewery where I can walk in and buy 2 cases of barrel-aged beer better than 99% of the stuff I wait in line/enter lotteries/buy tickets for.

Just max out every day of every BA release and drink them all accordingly. You won’t make it til then. Problem solved!

It boggles my mind that people think about beers in terms of trade value.

Even crazy releases that I know are sought after, I always assume the vast majority are there to consume the beer (or like me, have it collect dust for 2 years, and then randomly, drunk pop it), but that demand simply outpaced supply. I guess I’m just naieve.

Considering the word “trade” when I’m buying beer just seems so weird.

Any idea where the brewpub is located? They have been working on a giant building on Elston that looks like it could be a brewery.

Not to be rude, but you could just Google that. 2614 N California is the location.

I get what you’re saying, but you also have a trader mark by your profile. So I assume you’ve at some point bought a beer that you didn’t consume and sent to someone else for another beer. It is a bit crazy these days, but it’s also not hard to see how seemingly innocuous trading turned into what’s going on today.

Thanks for the location. I didn't know this was officially announced, thought people had insider info.

Holy Shit. Between the smoked helles, and their pilsner they've really turned up their lager game. If this is as good as I anticipate it will be, Pipeworks will be making a run at the top lager producers in the city... All while running one of the best barrel aging programs (recent hiccups aside) and turning out excellent IPAs across a variety of styles.

Between this & Dovetail I’m going to be stocking up on my lager cans!

I've unfortunately passed on all the PW lagers because of the price point. May have to give them a try if they're as good as described here.

As far as a basic lager goes, I do love their Premium Pils.

Premium Pils is very good (though not quite on par with the best of the style, even solely Chicago producers), Smoked Helles is great (but expectedly shy of Schlenkerla), and the Märzen was good. I expect the Bock to be a success, too. If you see them, grab them, because you won't be disappointed.

It was hot take-y, but here's my thought process. I think most people wouldn't argue with me that Dovetail is the #1 brewery for lagers in Chicago, right? #2 is Metropolitan? Who is #3? Kinslahger?? In my mind, the pilsner, smoked helles, bock and marzen are pretty much good enough to slot them in #3 ... they keep expanding their lager selection, release them regularly, and I personally may move them in front of Metropolitan (who I like, but find tend to be overrated since for so long they were the only one doing lagers in Chicago).

If you like rauchbiers, I'd recommend trying the smoked helles. The pilsner is good, but admittedly at the price point, a bit much.

I agree with your assessment albeit that I enjoyed the smoked helles more than Ive ever enjoyed a helles from Schlenkerla, but that is likely due to freshness (never did find the cans).
