    2. A remote heat and waterproof thermometer that you can drop into a mash, without any wires, that you can read and monitor outside of the mash tun.

Wondering how a Tilt digital hydrometer/thermometer would work crammed into the mash? Would be could if it could give you Ph too.

Yes, it should be technically possible to build one that is heat and water proof. I can't understand why it has not already been designed and put on the market. it would be a great seller.

There is a company who claims to have a CO2 recovery system for smaller craft brewers..... Saw it at CBC this past year. Earthly Labs

Do you know the price tag on a system like that? My brother and I would like to open a brewery and implement something like this.

After a few clicks, I found what his method is. He said that he pulls the blowoff at the tail end of fermenting so the conical gains some pressure in it as the yeast finish. Then he flips open the butterfly valve (before the hops are in) to fill the chamber with CO2. He had a PRV on the top that he purged the oxygen out. Does this a few times (like a keg I guess). And then puts the hops on. There was some concern in the comments about how much pressure that sight glass could hold

I'm thinking to really do this "right," the sight glass should be replaced with stainless, and the chamber should be purged, after the hops are added, with a lot more pressure via a keg post or something similar.

I wonder what it might cost to have someone cut/weld another tri-clamp ferule onto a conical lid.

You can always drop a Tilt into your mash. Its good to 185 degrees.

Do you use a Tilt? I'm curious on how well they work.

I've got one. Love it. It ain't perfect, a bit quirky, but it is a fun little toy. I might have to get another one or two more.

That's exactly what I was hoping would be invented! Thanks for the suggestion.

I've got a Tilt and I'm fairly happy with it. I mean, it's basically just cranking out a bunch of data and the calibration of the gravity readings isn't reliable out of the box, but just being able to see what's going on with temperature and gravity over time is pretty interesting.

On a much lower-tech level, I once had an idea for a set of hydrometer balls - basically half a dozen or so balls at roughly measured densities of (say) 1.006, 1.009, 1.012, 1.015, 1.020 and 1.040, which you could sanitise and drop into your fermenter to have a very quick visual indication of what your gravity is doing - is it still going, has it finished, has it stalled - without any of the faff of taking samples. But then it turned out that someone else had already had this idea and gave up making them, presumably because they didn't sell.

I have two. I love it. Not wasting 8oz to get a reading is great. If you want to use more than one, you have to get different colors. You can log, it will send to email (from your phone) you can name the beer as well for each session.

Are they only available from the manufacturer? Are they on sale anywhere? With US prices, shipping and customs duty, they might be fairly expensive to acquire here in Canada.

There is also the ispindel if you can use a soldering iron.
