Did I set an alarm for Day of the Dark? Damn straight I did. It’s the best thing going until the sweet release of death.

Amazing batch this year as usual. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, maple syrup, molasses, vanilla, fudge, toffee, cream, brownie/cake batter, brown sugar, bourbon, toasted oak, dark bread, and nuttiness; with lighter notes of licorice, smoke, charcoal, leather, tobacco, raisin, prune, fig, date, herbal, grass, peppery hops, and yeast earthiness. Some increasing booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Light herbal, roast, char bitterness; and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Light slickness, sticky hops, chalky char/roast, oak tannins, and increasing dryness. Mild increasing warmth of 12%, minimal barrel booze. Dangerously smooth sipping. Amazing balance and complexity of rich malts and bourbon barrel presence/integration; with balancing earthy hops against sweetness. I think the Maple Biscotti is far better, but this is still worth the price. Very easy to find right now.

I just woke up, but I think we have a winner already!

Which is a shame really, since I haven’t had a beer yet!

My dog woke me at some ungodly hour so he could go out and pee (at least he didn't go in the house).

It's a shame that you haven't had a beer yet? Isn't it a shame that poor GreenBay is probably being probed right now?

2017 is tasting amazing. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roast coffee, caramel, toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with light molasses and smoke. Very mild roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Mild stickiness, chalky roast, oak tannins, and dryness. Minimal warming 11.8%, zero booze. Unbelievably smooth. Definitely better than it was fresh right now. Everything is perfectly balanced, and more silky smooth on feel.

Fantastic batch this year. Aromas and flavors of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, raspberries, raisin, plum, fig, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark/brown bread; with light notes of molasses, licorice, smoke, char, and herbal/peppery hops. Light herbal, roast, char bitterness; bourbon/oak spiciness; and fruit tang on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and full body; creamy/silky/velvety malts; some sticky hops, chalky roast, and oak tannins in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing lingering bitter/tannic dryness; no cloying, acrid, astringency. Dangerously smooth sipping, mild increasing warmth of 12%, no barrel booze. Amazing balance of rich malts, raspberries, cocoa, and bourbon barrel presence/integration. Not as impressive as last year's 14% batch. A bit more bitter/tannic drying, but still delicious. I love the whole Flying Buffalo series.

Mornin' on this special Day of the Dark. I'd drink something bigger than this Obsidian Stout, but hey, I got shit to do, another 24 hours of work (at least) of digging through a grading pile and putting together a personnel review. Good times. Also, #endthread since @GreenBayBA just shut this shit down. Amazing post. Cheers, you pagans!! (now fear that darkness....)
