This would be my best guess.
But then again, it seemed to be the same price as their premium non-BA stuff like Behemoth, Blot out the sun, etc, not more. So maybe they truly just wanted to make a blend and thought it tasted better. Idk.

It was poured at Fobab 17 (also my worst beer of the fest as it was a green pepper bomb). If it was actually entered for judging, I would take that as a definitive answer in the debate

BA Blot Out the Sun is quite solid. Definitely black IPA hop aroma... was wondering if they brought me regular BOtS at the first. But flavor, yeah... it starts of velvety and licorice, but finishes with good barrel sweetness. Medium mouthfeel. I think this one will age well.

Army of Hops is a good ‘old school’ IPA. Citrusy with a bitter hop bite at the end. Initially reminded me of Zombie Dust. Lactose is not overpowering.

Highlight might be MeggaPilz though. As has been said many times and I’m in total agreement, 3Floyds German-style beer game is very high quality and underrated. This is citrusy, clean, crushable with a perfect mouthfeel. They need to have this for ‘to-go’!

If you blend a beer 50/50 ba and fresh you can double the size of the release and sell more beer.

Beer tastes good so I don’t see the problem.

I've had bombers of the first two batches of Crack the Skye, and neither one was waxed.

I just opened one of mine, for science! I'll paste my review below, but my overall opinion is that it's still very good, but I prefer the base Behemoth as well as both of the aged variants. It it was just the addition of cherries, like Pipeworks' Cherry Murderous, I think I would have liked it better, but the wine or liqueur notes clash a little with Behemoth's strong hops profile.

Pours just as gorgeous as the standard Behemoth, perhaps a touch darker in color, but with plenty of rocky head and retained lacing. The nose smells more oxidized than it probably is, with the Danish cherry wine (Kijafa, I would assume?) pulling the usually-strong hop character of the base beer in a much fruitier direction; the result is a bit astringent and with some orange and tea notes. The palate washes some of those notes away, replacing the orange with cherry liqueur. Still has nice hops and floral notes, plus some vanilla, but not a ton of oak character.

Overall, this is still a very nice beer, but it's my least-favorite of the 2018 aged variants because the cherry wine butts in on a lot of what makes Behemoth such a unique barleywine. The result is still unique, but it moves in a direction I'd be just as fine with not going towards.

Crack The Skye is the lifeblood of this thread, without a doubt; debate v1.0 began at post #12!

Oh, and by the way, that beer hasn't been released this year, so its nice that someone got the ole debate going before the year was out... I guess.

For the next batch of Crack The Skye, they are barrel aging the bottle caps.

Opened a Chevalier de Bertrand with my family last night. Super sour but sweet enough to balance it.. three Floyds sours are so intense, they are everything I look for in the style. Everyone really enjoyed it.

Good idea to share it in a large group. Certainly helps given the format

New 3Floyds tekus are substantially nicer looking than the previous version which looked like someone just put a sticker on. The new one has a silver bat winged skull logo, a silver ‘3floyds’ on opposite end, and a silver ring on top. I didn’t need yet another new glass but this one looked so nice, I grabbed one.

They had it on draft between 6 and 18 months ago (I honestly have no idea when I had it).

And I remember really liking it, but also being surprised, because the first haze attempt I had from them was awful.

That being said, one of my favorite haze beers of all time is the Floyd’s/Forbidden Root collab.
