Une Annee's amazing, but it's suburbs. I'd say check out what Dovetail has to offer.

The first two posts in the thread are lists. At some point it would've been a little too cumbersome to keep a list going...apparently we gave up after 2 posts.

    Top NEIPA producers in Chicagoland:

    - corridor
    - Forbidden Root
    - Maplewood (I assume, because it tastes like Roger now?)
    - Marz

    Suburbs:
    - MoRE
    - Mikerphone
    - Brickstone
    - Noon Whistle

    Check it twice.

Since the posts aren't editable after like 15 minutes, list posts don't make much sense. I initially meant the thread to be a list of these beers, but this was when Chicago had barely started churning out hazy stuff, and at this point it makes no sense to maintain a list of every hazy beer by every Chicagoland brewery.
I'd add Hop Butcher as well, but I'm not sure which one to put them under (suburbs because of where they brew, or Chicago because it's 95% of their distro)

for being the top brewery city in the country, the local selection of NEIPA 's is surprisingly sparse.

or perhaps that's just the norm for most markets, but i would have thought more breweries would have started riding this train consistently

I think it's because a lot of the local breweries are still either fighting the trend, are not on board, or just don't brew that sort of beer. HA and PW can and have brewed basically NE beers, but have shown that they still also like to make more traditional ones. Guys like Off Color, Moody Tongue and Dovetail don't really do that sort of thing, and a lot of the biggest NE producers in the city leaned into them as their claim to fame (Hop Butcher, Corridor, Forbidden Root, Mikerphone before Mike started his taproom). I'm not sure how other markets do it, but I think what we're seeing is what happens when a style pops up intentionally as opposed to organically; there's still some push-back from breweries who want to brew their own way.

Energy City and Saint Errant are probably also worthy of being in the list. Illuminated has come a long way recently as well.

How about adding Old Irving and GABF Gold winner Alarmist?

Haven’t had old Irving beer. Alarmist should be added. Le Jus is a very nice beer

Does one beer warrant them getting on the top NEIPA producers list? Unless there are others they make that are top tier (and I disagree that Le Jus is a top tier beer). It's a decent beer.

If you make a list of the top NEIPA producers in Chicagoland and it has more than 6-8 places, I feel like the list becomes diluted at that point. There's gotta be some separation at the top. Do I recall a poll that was setup for something like this awhile back where people voted on the tops in both the city and the suburbs?

Are we trying to put together a full list of decent/good options?

Old Irving's NE stuff doesn't blow me away, but it's definitely good enough, and OI is a great place in general. Le Jus is a good middle-of-the-road NE beer, imo, but wouldn't come near the top of my personal local hazies list.

I'd also throw in HA just for Sailor's Kush, but...availability on that beer is so low that it's not helpful to anyone.

Yeah, this is what I'm wondering about. I think Quilentro's original list was good enough for a "hey, if you're in Chicago check out one of these hazy producers" list.

I would say Alarmist and Old Irving are not top tier, but I think are substantially better than questionable additions of Pollyanna, Noon Whistle, and Brickstone.

Personally, I would throw Windmill on a suburbs list well ahead of Pollyanna, Noon Whistle, and Brickstone.

Windmill's consistency is so bad that I can't recommend anyone go there. Pretty much the opposite of Noon Whistle in that regard.

Fair enough, and I think that gets to the point that I was trying to make. A top tier list should be relatively brief.

I will say that I like the stuff I’ve had from Brickstone since they started their Haz’d Up series, or whatever it’s called.

Is Noon Whistle consistently good, mediocre, or worse? I was buying their stuff last year but stopped because nothing ever stood out.
