Agreed. When I ordered NEIPAs or "hazy" beers in Portland as they would be labeled on the menu they all retained some quintessential bitterness of an IPA. Sailor's Kush IMO is a good representation of the types of "haze" beers I came across in Portland.

VOL is beer of the year for me but Hypster is still very close behind. Pipeworks nailed those two beers!

Might have hit the dojo on Friday and load up the choppa like December 31st with cans. Then smuggle them back to Indiana for the holiday weekend.

So I grabbed a mixed 6er of a bunch of the Pipeworks lagers yesterday and tried the bock. I thought it was not just a good bock, but a fantastic one. Loved it.

I also had a Velocity of Light and it was a good beer but I loved the bock.

Thanks for the endorsement, I always trust your lager opinions and so far so good on pipeworks.

Thank you very much for the compliment and for your endorsement in kind; the feeling is mutual, on beer in general! I haven't been able to pick the bock up yet, but now I'm even more eager. Cheers!

I misspoke about grabbing more than a couple, I forgot one of the cans I grabbed was Dovetail's new canned Helles. The other PW lager I got was the pilsner which I haven't had yet.

I'd just like to point out that if you don't normally drink lagers and try this, you will nod your head and go "This Dovetail Helles is extremely well done" before realizing more than 3 sips is a chore.

Haven't tried it yet, but why do you think it'll be a chore? Just the style of beer for non lager drinkers or something else?

It tasted very nice for a lager, but was just way too light as a beer for me to finish. If you are drinking lagers regularly, this will be good. If you aren't, you may as well have a Budweiser.

Do you feel that way about helles in general or Dovetail's in particular? Just curious. Haven't had it yet but looking forward to it, although it's the wrong time of the year for me to drink a helles. For some reason I can drink a BA stout in 90 degree heat, but not a helles in the cold.

The Galaxy pops more with this batch. Best shelf IPA I can remember in some time

Again, I am in no way trying to disparage Dovetail's Helles. I haven't had a Helles in while, I used to like them, I've probably fallen out of the style as Dovetails has good flavor, it's just my palate doesn't go "this is a good lager" it says "where the f- are the hops we are used to?" It's a good beer, I just can't do Lagers anymore I think. It's funny because I thought their Maibock was incredible and it doesn't have an IPA-like hop presence, but the lager just seemed to light after being so used to bigger beers.
