I was pretty disappointed with this beer last year. High West-ified was much better. Won't be buying it again either way.

I agree, I liked High Westified better but I did enjoy (2017) Willetized because of the price point. I got a couple of bombers this year, tried one and found it good but not worth it now. I will spend my money on SMS or BA BP V@S.

The number of people who misspelled Willettized in this thread (including the title) is too damn high! That is bothering me more than the price increase.

I had this beer last night at a little dive bar/restaurant. They were serving it in the 10 oz Mason jars for $5 a pour. Great deal for a great beer IMO.

Edit: I just noticed that @raynmoon corrected himself on the spelling in the OP

I read that the packaging was a typo.

    Enjoy

Bought a bottle yesterday 8.99, that’s not bad at all. No mason jars or fancy packaging.

Agreed. BA Victory at Sea is certainly better, and you get what, like more than twice the amount of beer that you can also spread out and open at different times, for a little more $ with the 4pk as opposed to the Lagunitas 22oz-er.

No issue with the beer. Lagunitas response to me was still weak. I'd still try it on draft. Tons of bombers hanging around here in stores. As someone who works in beer sales the bombers are just a pain in the butt to make look attractive on the floor, and harder to make a sale on to a potential new customer. Once the top is popped its done for, not like you can give the other bottles away to friends/family like you could a four/sixer.

I really enjoyed this beer. Would definitely like it in 12 oz format but I happen to be the kind of guy who enjoys drinking a whole big bottle of beer in one sitting and I really enjoy how long it takes to drink through one like this and the attendant temperature range you get to experience. This is one I will consider getting a few more bombers of.

Wasted $9 on this the other day, this beer has fallen along way since the original High Westified bombers.

I don't think I'd complain had they kept the price the same and went to 4 packs. They increase profit margins and I still feel like im getting a great deal. The bomber and obligatory rise in price per ounce, while losing the much preferred ability to open a single beer is irritating. Overall, I may pick a bottle up, but probably won't. I prefer 12 ounce bottles to a degree that it dictates what I buy unless I consider a beer to be outstanding, then I'll spring for a bomber.....reluctantly.

Any word on when the new batch of BA Victory at Sea comes out?

With the number of folks posting it the the beer haul thread, I presumed it was out in November but just hasn't reached all markets. Their release calendar shows it's out in November and December. Hope we haven't missed out since we don't have it here yet. Really excellent beer, think I'll toss my last 2017 bottle in the fridge.

I saw several bottles of the Willettized Lagunitas at my local store today, $8.99 a bottle. Couldn't bring myself to buy it though, instead I bought a 12 pack of assorted Lord Hobo beers. I was eyeballing a bottle of Lost Abbey Serpent's Stout which was $12 but didn't buy it, I may go back though and pick that one up.

Thanks for mentioning the other thread. I just checked it and you’re right, there are BA VaS 2018 bottles being posted. I’m in the greater LA area and haven’t seen anything yet. I'll keep looking!

Bump to reiterate that I am absolutely crushed that Lagunitas sold out and went to 22-ounce bottles of Willetized.

I was such a fanboy of Lagunitas and drank tons of their beers for years, largely because I truly believed they had a different philosophy and truly reveled in being a black sheep. Much of my delusion had to do with how much I loved High Westified/Willetized, and the fact it was available in 12-packs for $13 or $14. So cool. I could enjoy one on a weeknight. In fact, I am sitting here right now savoring a 12-ounce bottle hoarded from 2017.

But alas, it turns out Lagunitas is just like all the other breweries -- ultimately focused solely on squeezing out maximum profits. I didn't buy a single one of the 22-ounce Willetized bottles. And strangely, I didn't buy a single sixer of any other Lagunitas beer in the last 12 months. I used to buy cases: Brown Shugga, Waldo's, etc.

    Sigh. Life is cruel.

A business worried about their profit margins: shocking.

You do realize that putting out 6-packs of a barrel aged stout at $12 is practically losing money? Do you also realize that putting a $10 bomber of stellar BA stout is also a WAY better deal than other beers of the same style?

I'm shocked I'm still triggered by these comments. I think I need to learn my lesson. Perhaps go buy some more bombers of Westified at the local gas station. Gosh, that's gonna suck.

Frankly, it's not even a great deal anymore. Willetized was never as good as Westified, and this year's batch was weaker than the last. I didn't think it was all that good.

I think a 15.99 Ten Fidy four pack is a superior stout deal. Yes, it is not BA, but it is a better beer.

I did like the westified better but bombers of the willetized for 8.99 (starting to see some cheaper near me, cheapest I've seen was 7.99) is a screaming deal. It's a solid ba stout and cheap at that price

I think it tasted exactly the same. But to each their own.

And yes, Ten Fidy is pretty godly. I'd buy that over it too.

You're right, that's gonna suck. Because BOMBERS SUCK! Unless you're a borderline drunk, who wants to open a bottle of 12- or 13-percent alcohol on a worknight? Not me. It was one of the beautiful aspects of the old High Westified/Willettized six-packs. Barrel-aged beer appropriate for any time. Hell, I barely even finished the 12-ounce glass of Willettized I poured last night when I made that post. I stretched it over 90 minutes paired with a slice of coconut cake. MONEY!

Lagunitas had won me over as a fanboy. I was fully aware they couldn't be making tons of money on Westified/Willettized. But it separated them from the brewery pack. Was the marketing value worth it to earn customers like me who then went on to buy EVERYTHING they brewed and talk them up to everyone I know? That's the question.

Feel free to be "triggered." I'm just sharing my feelings. Lagunitas' format change sent me in a different direction. And when it comes to barrel-aged beers, hell, I might start drinking Dragon's Milk, even if it's not as good (to me) or priced as well. At least it's in 12-ounce bottles.
