the ba smores stout at penrose is phenomenal. best smores beer ive had.

sweet but not cloying. you get smores on both the nose and taste, authentic not artificial. the marshmallow presence is insane.

I concur. Excellent beer. Hard to compare to S’more Luv/Henna 3 since it’s BA but has excellent mouthfeel and all expected flavors are present

The More Smores beer was average at best IMO

Didn't understand the hype on that at all

Damn. I'll stick with the easily available Rev Tar at that price. I wanted to try these too. Oh well.

Really depends what youre after. To me tar is dark fruit dark chocolate where the boathouse regular is brownie batter and hot bourbon. Im sure itll mellow with time but i dont mind it right now. The rye whiskey i like less but i hate rye everything. Ive heard good things from people that like that though. The cafe deth is fuckin delicious though ill buy that at $30

Gonna be staying in the Buffalo Grove area for a few days after Xmas. Any recommendations on shops to hit in some of the surrounding burbs for BCBS variants? Know I might be paying a little extra if they’re still around now and I’m okay with that (to an extent). Also will be ISO Vanilla Deth if there’s any still out there or if it’s been distributed by then. Would love any recommendations on other things to keep an eye out for too. Pm me if you have any suggestions. Cheers!

Finally got a chance to stop by Begyle yesterday and try their new BA imperial stout, Snooze Button. Had the bourbon, rye and the maple bourbon variants.

All were very well done, nothing earth shattering, but really enjoyable. Every maple stout I've had from Begyle has been great with the maple, I'm usually not overly impressed by maple stouts but Begyle does the job.

Foremost liquors in Arlington Heights had orange, bramble, vanilla, and coffee on shelf at standard gouging prices as of yesterday. $37 each for stouts, $17 for coffee barley. On the shelf right above the $25 four packs of far superior deths tar and a few spots over from the $40 kbs bombers. This is not a joke.

Anyone try the Vlad Chocolate & Hazlenut yet?

PSA - anyone traveling to or around the OP area, Brass Tap has a ridiculous line up right now per Beer Menus. All BCBS from this year minus Prop, Reserve and MO, BCBBW 17, Vanilla Deth, Parabola, CBS, etc, etc.

A lot of us are off today with some windows of free time around errands and relaxing. If anyone sees something special on tap anywhere (bar or brewery) in the city or suburbs please share!
