Hey regardless of whether or not it’s illegal, it’s a bullshit move that makes it harder for regular folk to get the beer from the brewery at cost when places are buying up the max (or more if they’re sending more than one person) and then taking the beer and selling it elsewhere at a jacked up price. Not good.

Class C license: this pertains only to NY state.

Burden of proof: I asked you about it because you stated that what they were doing wasn't illegal.

Plus who cares if it's illegal?: People discussing whether or not it's illegal in which one party states definitively that it is't lol.

let's not make uniformed claims: I definitely haven't made a claim about the legality... I think you have, right?

Don't mean any ill will towards ya, just figured it was worth discussing. Pretty curious about this now but also have a strict "don't do legal research outside of work hours" policy. If anyone more informed cares to weigh in I'm interested.

Popped a Daydreamiest for dinner... a bit sweet for my taste, but I've heard others from today are the highlights.

To play devil's advocate: there are a ton of "regular" folks that have work or other obligations that love beer and would love to try a can or two of these beers that would never get to do so if it wasn't for these outlets.

Hard for me to say "for shame" on distributors who jack up prices when you have customers that will gladly pay the premium to not have to fill up their tank and wait in traffic for hours in order to get their taste.

The racism is something I've been outspoken against from the get-go, but I really don't care about the reselling. We've all known that this has been going on for years, it's just being thrown in our faces now.

Sure, but isn't it also helping plenty of regular folk who just want one can and can't line up at the one time you need to be there to get said beer. The jacked up price isn't any worse than all the muling going down on Instagram.

No, I totally get it, and you were totally fair to call me out on a "mysterious friend." But this is someone I really trust when it comes to issues like this! I probably misquoted someone up there and said something you might take as towards you, but it's more "to the conversation" than any specific poster. You are right, I did make the claim about legality though in response to @ke_long

Edit: As per the Class C/NYS thing. I'm only interested in this conversation as it pertains to New York beer.

There are a ton of issues regarding reselling, some that specifically involve Other Half. OH used to call out shops that were illegally reselling their cans. They’ve stopped, I’d assume because they’ve embraced their regulars, mules and the secondary market.

There is no grey area. What Lake Ronkonkoma and other LI Distributors are doing is illegal. They don’t care because the gouging that they get away with can cover the fines.

Don’t get me wrong, if people choose to pay $12 for a can that’s on them, I just think it sucks that it takes away beer from locals that are trying to avoid lines and such.

I don’t care if it’s a store or an individual. It’s a dick move that makes the craft beer scene worse. People willing to pay for the marked up price are part of the problem. As for people who can’t normally get the beer, I think there are a lot of people (like me) who are happy to either give extras away or at worst send others the beer at cost without jacking up the price. My friends and I do that all the time. You guys are defending opportunists engaging in selfish behavior. They aren’t looking out for anyone but themselves.

That's very nice of you and others who choose to do that. Hell, @RobNewton has been one of those people for me. I'm forever grateful for the generosity.

You do that for friends, but would you do that for a stranger? Odds are the answer is a resounding "no." There are people like myself whose circle of close friends aren't into beer to the same extent that I am, making options limited outside of driving out to the brewery. Sometimes I just want to try a can or two and realize it would cost me more money to make the drive and buy a full 4-pack that I don't want than it would cost to hire a mule or go to a distributor and pay a jacked-up price.

So then I guess you’re in favor of other people getting shut out after making the drive to the brewery so your local shady shop can give you the opportunity of overpaying for that beer?

Oh and by the way I have given the beer away to people I barely know and have traded at cost to strangers. I’m sure I’m not the only one.

I'm sure you're not. I know I've done the same as I know @Comparison_Ford has as well. I can live with getting shut out once in a while if it means I know where I can go to get that 1 can I want to try when that's all I want, rather than spending almost an hour each way via subway (Shout out to the F running on the C line this morning!) to snag a 4 pack of the same beer.

It's like the past few months of there being no lines and no sell-outs at other half were just...
It was all a dream, I used to read BA magazine...

I get what you’re saying. I like going to my local stores to get 4 packs or singles of NJ brewery releases but I guess I like the fact that it’s all above board with the breweries sending some of their releases to stores.

    Yeah, that certainly is preferred!

It's interesting that OH continues to be the only nyc brewer that doesn't (have to?) distribute cans at all. Even Grimm cans have started showing up at Beer Boutique and other spots 2-3 weeks after canning.

    edit: Blueberry Crunchee is incredible

Blueberry Crunchee -- Could this be OH's best fruit-focused beer to date?

    (Not considering City Slickers fruit....)

Also, yeah, wish I only got 1 4-pack of Sicker....let's see how this mellows out over the next week.
