Not sold out yet, getting close though. No longer on tap at the pub.

How is this still for sale? It's been over a week, thought it would be gone by last Sunday.

Probably a combination of price, bottle count, Ebay cracking down on alcohol sales, and maybe the high ABV. I think the price is the biggest factor in it not being sold out, if it was under $20 I would have bought more bottles.

I do believe price is the biggest issue as well. Generally I see a fair number of the Chicago crew and the east siders driving over in droves with Bell's releases. When we are talking nearly $90 for a whole allotment plus the cost of travel there is simply not the same incentive for many.

yah when tap pours are 6.75 for 12oz's compared to 28 out the door for a 25oz bottle you do the math lol

Bells general store says myself and buddy got the last of the bottles. Another guy walked in as we were checking out looking for a bottle and they said we had the last of the bottles so I let him buy one one of mine.

I appreciate the love, but that's what BA is all about. As soon as I heard him ask if they had any left I knew I couldn't walk out without offering him one of my bottles. I could only imagine being on the other end of it and be the first "runner up". In the end I got more joy out of sharing it with him than I could've drinking a beer anyways.

He said he plans on aging it a year and opening it up next Veteran's Day. I hope whoever he is that he happens to be on BA and posts his review next year and I get to read it.

Does anybody else that's tried it think that it should be rated higher than just a 90 on here? IMO it was much better than Black Note when I had them side to side at the All Stouts Day. Not really looking to start a war between BB9k vs. Black Note, just thinking it was incredible and should be rated among the best!

I guess I don't understand how the scoring works on here. I'm not really one to review things as I am pretty new to getting into complex brews. I just thought it was an incredible brew up there with one of my favorites. Just wanted to see if anyone thought the same.

Probably some people think that, and probably other don't. Not everyone will likes everything the same. It is what it is.

It is best to ignore the BA Score and look at the rAvg instead. The BA Score is docking the overall score for not having enough reviews. This can be seen as a way to keep "homers" from over-hyping a beer at release to increase trade value or something.

I think it is a fantastic beer and that BA score will increase as more people review it and give it high scores.

I think the bigger principle at work here is that a larger sample size is more likely to represent the "true" rating average for a beer. If 1000 people have reviewed a beer, you can be reasonably confident that their review average represents the same average that a different 1000 people would settle on. But if only 10 people have reviewed a beer, it is much less likely that the next 10 people to review it would give it the same average score.

On those lines, BA Score penalizes beers with low rating counts to avoid flashing every new greatest thing up to a 99 and then watching its score be extremely volatile. Instead, if subsequent ratings keep it strong, the beer slowly drifts upwards to where it should be.

Additionally, the mechanism by which it achieves this penalty is a pretty nice regression to the mean formula that you can learn more about on the bottom of any "Top Beers" page.

Black Note or BA 9K is simply a matter of preference as I see it. I would not rank one above the other. They both fall behind BA Cherry Stout however. Now if we want to talk about the best, that is your answer.

I think being better than BA 9K is quite the hurdle to jump for BA Cherry Stout, but I'm sure you've already had it, so I'll take your word for it.

I have drank the equivalent of 7 750s of BA Cherry over the last month, each time I had one BA 9K was on tap as well. It was a very easy choice for me.

Personally, right next to each other, I preferred BA 9K, but after giving it some thought, I think I enjoyed BA Cherry Stout more. BA 9K is a strong beer that is in your face, BA Cherry Stout is a little more subtle.

I think BA Cherry Stout is easier to drink but I don't think I'd rate it higher then BA 9000. As stated before, average score for BA 9000 is 4.3x but there's just not enough reviews (yet). It's a delicious beer and I think it's quite possibly one of my favorite beers released in 2012.
