At this point, just hoping that O'Hare has enough TSA staffing to get me through to my flight, and that the government shutdown hasn't affected Volcanoes NP and Haleakala NP too much...

But at least there will be beer! (Just not the newest label beers).

Thanks again for the notes and I will definitely report back. I'll have to look around Hilo for good bars and taps.

    On the Big Island:
Hilo-A must stop for good food I highly recommend Pineapples (downtown area): they have excellent food, atmosphere and beer (BIB is usually always on tap there). Bottle selection is very good, but mostly Kona bottles. They should have BIB Overboard IPA, Golden Sabbath or White Mountain Porter. Another highly recommended place to eat is Hawaiian Style Café-Hilo. Awesome Hawaiian food, but nothing good in beers. A few local Kona bottles. We've been to Hilo 10 times in the last 2 years. And we stop at the Hawaiian Style Café every visit. Say Hi to "Guy"(owner) from David in Huntington Beach for me. And if you visit Big Island Brewhaus in Waimea there's another Hawaiian Style Café there also. Guy's ex wife #1 owns that location. Don't ask. His ex wife #2 owns a Hawaiian café nearby my house in HB called Dough Doughs. Also good but not as good as the real deal. Yes #2 ex. But we prefer the Hawaiian Style Café in Waimea over the Hilo location for the Kalbi plate. Don't skip on their breakfast. Pretty awesome. And I guarantee you'll be bringing leftover back with you. In Kona you got Kona Brewing Co and the newly opened Ola Brewery nearby Kona Brew. We go to Kona Brewery for their pizza. Not their beers. But they may have some interesting special releases on tap when your there. I always bring bottles and cans with me when I go to any of the islands. Especially in Hilo. Good beer is scarce or old in Hilo. That's why we hit up BIB before driving to Hilo to stock up. If you can find a fresh bottle of Holy Humulus (BIB) grab it. But they don't date their bottles. Its all Batch #'s. So your taking a chance unless you go straight to the source.

I work at LAX so TSA really hasn't affected this airport much, yet. Enjoy.

Tamuras is definitely worth a stop on Maui! There's a few, but the best 2 are the one in Lahaina and the one in town near Costco. Good selection of bottles & some of the best poke on the island!

Loved Kauai Ono. It was the best/unique dinner experience on our trip. I did see some cans at Costco, but nothing I wanted to grab a case of.

Yeah, we went there. Maybe their draft list was just weak when I visited, but it was very underwhelming. I suppose its okay for a vacation spot.

They've got two locations on Oahu now, but I've never heard anything about one on Kauai.
