Chicagoland NE IPAs (2019)

Here's a little discussion about Quad Cities. Next time I go back Wake Brewing will be the first place I hit up. Also, tell him to look for Triptych cans in Moline or Rock Island - Wake Up Neo, A Wizard is Never Late, Dank Meme, and O Rly?! are my personal favs for hops from them. I'm not sure how easy it is to find their stuff in the QC, but they do distro there last I heard.

Genuinely curious, what PW have you had that you didn't like?

Hopefully he brings back some beers or ships me something while there for providing all the intel As far as the PW, its not that I don't like what I had its just that I have better (imho) available to me at the same cost so its not worth seeking out. Last few I had were Ninja VS Unicorn, Lizard King and something with a big ass bird on the label.

 

If you’re looking for Pipeworks with the NE IPA style twist, Speed of Sound and Velocity of Light are good offerings. They still won’t be quite so low on the bitterness as a lot of Veil but they will be juicy and tropical.

 

Revisited Stratus last night. Canned 1/3. It’s really good now. Not massive, but best deal in most situations I’d bet.

Firestone Walker is launching Mind Haze later this month. It’s going to be $9.99 on shelves. It’ll be interesting to watch this price war play out over the next year or two

 

Agreed on the 1/3 Stratus, nice and juicy at $10.99 a 4pk.

So my fridge was way colder than I though, and I accidentally made some sort of hazy ipa eisbock (well, there's no bock part. An eis-pa?) and it was awesome. Might need to explore this style. It'll be even more wasteful than regular haze.

 

Hop Butcher will copy it and just call it an American Eisenbock....

 

But is it ready to drink now? Or do I need to wait for some nebulous time for it to nestle?

It is so cold and I resent the fact delivery drones won’t bring me a single can. The year is 2019 and none of my expectations are being met.

 

Sitting at Rev's brewpub, and this Training Haze is a pretty solid entrée into neipas for them. First pipeworks, now Rev. Has Half Acre done an "official" haze yet?

 

I'm hoping we can re-litigate the unfiltered BHA discussion from summer of 2017

 

If you take "modern American goon sap" to mean hazy ipa, then yes, HA did it with Wait for the Sound.
