Fantastic as always, just passed a year old. Aromas and flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, wood smoke, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, nuttiness, and dark bread; with lighter notes of charcoal, licorice, raisin, plum, and herbal/peppery/piney hops. Light-moderate herbal, pepper, pine, roast, charred bitterness; and light bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Light-medium carbonation and very full body. Very creamy/silky malt mouthfeel; fair amount of sticky hops, chalky roast, and oak tannins. Lightly increasing lingering hop/char bitter dryness, no acrid/astringency. Mildly increasing warmth of 12.5%, zero barrel booze. Dangerously smooth sipper. Just as outstanding as I remember when I first reviewed it. Perfect balance of smoked stout and bourbon barrels; while still retaining a nice amount of hop character from the RIS aspect of the base beer. Extremely impressive. Spot on style. Would get another one, still on the shelf some places.

I just got to the virtual bar, and @JamFuel had arranged breakfast for me. Thank you, sir! My first beer of the day is a local bourbon barrel-aged stout.

Amazing IPA as always. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, peach, apricot, mango, citrus peel/rind, pepper, and pine hops; with moderate honey, toasted bread malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation/body; balanced creamy/bready malt and sticky/resinous/rindy hops in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, no hop astringency. Very drinkable and not overly aggressive. Even with the new hops they added for the 1.1 version, it still tastes like the original Chinook/Centennial hop profile the most. Perfectly balanced juicy and dank hop complexity; with a nice solid malt backbone. A true classic IPA. Pretty much just as impressive as the first time I reviewed it over 6 years ago. A lot easier to find fresh recently, I'll keep buying them. Price is hard to beat for 16 oz cans, same with the Arrogant Bastard.

I am a fan of quite a wide variety of music. The one musical band that I could never get into is The Grateful Dead. I have always appreciated how devoted their fan base is. Since I lived in a fraternity house where I was the only non-Deadhead, I have been exposed to quite a bit of their music, but it just never did it for me. But when you drink a beer that is inspired by music, I believe in listening to that music. Here is a song that I heard many times in the late 90s. Though I don't necessarily enjoy listening to the song, it brings back many wonderful memories.

Amazing NEIPA as always. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, orange juice, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, guava, berries, lemon zest, orange peel, and light pepper/pine hops; with wheat, biscuit dough, light honeyed malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Very mild pine, grassy, zesty, citrus peel bitterness on the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; very creamy, bready, grainy wheat/oats, and light hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Lightly increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. Very dank and juicy hops, with perfect wheat, oat, malt malt balance. Not overly sweet/heavy from lingering dryness, amazing soft feel. Super easy drinking. Glad to have this as a year round available beer. This is one of my top most purchased beers ever at the moment. It just doesn't get any better for the style vs availability. Every Old Nation NEIPA is better than most anything else I've had in the state. DDH is just as impressive; but a bit more bitter, resinous, dank, and earthy.

Well layered beer just like a cobbler. Was afraid it might taste artificial, but it was the exact opposite. Truly an amazing beer!! Thanks @Steel_Buckeye77 for introducing me to this gem.

Beautiful day on tap here...should reach the upper ‘70s. Back from long walk to park with the dogs, it’s coffee time - KBS bottled 02/22/17:

Still drinking fine. The coffee is muted and the chocolate shines. We may drive up to Tarpon Springs with Jr. Z later and go to the sponge markets and eat lots of Greek food for Mrs. Z’s birthday. Have a great Saturday!

Dawn presented with large buckets of rain enough that even the dogs didn't want to go out. Almost 8:00 am and it's still dark out. Oh well, there's beer . . .

Appearance of burnt umber with small khaki cap and lacing.

Big, bold aroma of roasty malt with somewhat citrusy hops riding on top.

This is a substantial brew by any measure. The malt is big, deep and tastes of toasted rather than roasted malt, dark caramel, toffee, and something like Turbinado sugar without the sugar sweetness. Indeed, it comes off as rather dry considering the flavors. Hops are there from start to finish contributing a floral, citrus touch both of which combine to offset the malt.

    Full texture with balancing carbonation.

This one doesn't come around often and I'm glad to make it's acquaintance. Frankly I would call this thing a Barleywine. It has the size, depth and packs a wallop. As complex as a sipper yet drinks easily.

2017 is tasting amazing. Aromas and flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, nutty dark roast coffee, caramel, toffee, vanilla, brown sugar, bourbon, coconut, toasted oak, and dark bread; with light molasses, dark fruit, and smoke. Very mild roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak tannin spiciness on the finish. Medium carbonation and full body; with a very creamy, silky, velvety, and rich mouthfeel. Mild stickiness, chalky roast, oak tannins, and dryness. Minimal warming 11.8%, zero barrel booze. Unbelievably smooth. Definitely better than it was fresh right now. Perfectly balanced rich malts, fruity/nutty coffee, and bourbon barrel presence/integration. Still have plenty left of this batch and 2018. Stellar.
