How is Burial in Raleigh? Was thinking of going this Saturday.

This Saturday was very crowded around 2:00 and again at 8:00 when we went back. It`s just an odd setup - very narrow, nowhere really to stand or sit to drink, bright cooler lighting, very loud, and you have to use a bathroom in the food hall around the corner.

I was glad to be able to grab cans and a few quick pours, but it was definitely not a place you would just hang out for hours like the Asheville location.

That’s exactly what they were going for. It’s meant to just be a satellite location to sell taproom only cans.

Thank you. Yeah I just wanted to pop in and see it, grab a single beer. Would be there around 2ish.

I am going to be in Charlotte at the end of March, I noticed Hop Culture is having a fest during the time I'm going to be there. I am thinking about hopping in for a few hours. I know the must stops like Foam, Southern Grist, Forest and Main and Dancing Gnome but I am not super familiar with the local options. What do you guys see as the absolute must stops? I try to play it cool at fests instead of being "that guy" so I'd like to prioritize the besties. I am an IPA/Sour/Non-pastry Stout guy. Thanks in advance!

I'm not a big fan of Ancillary thus far. Their stuff has ranged from okay to bad IMO.

The first beer they came out with (The Cat's Out of the Bag) was absolutely fantastic. I agree about the rest that I have had though, they have just been mediocre. At this point, I would rather just stick with New Anthem and Burial IPAs, so so good.

The Ancillary/Burial IPA was easily the grossest thing they’ve done.

The "These Incendiary Devices"? I haven't had it yet, people are giving it pretty strong ratings (4.2 out of 5) to be 'grossest thing they've done'.

Grossest thing Ancillary Fermentation has done

Collaboration hype can change people’s perceptions pretty easily...Guaranteed if you blindly tasted it you wouldn’t have a high opinion of it

I don't think it made distro, so I probably won't get to try it. All I was saying is there are 150+ reviews, so usually when something has a 4.2, gross doesn't describe it. If I see it though, I'll try and be sure to post my review of it.

    Hopslam has a 4.32. Doesn’t mean it’s good

Quite a bit off topic, but hopslam is pretty darn delicious.

I agree, don't get me wrong, I appreciate a good NE style IPA. But not every IPA has to be that style, Hopslam is a great non NE style IPA. I wish more NC breweries would diversify thier IPA portfolios and stop chasing the hype with every new release. Also wish Burial would bring back scythe, but maybe I am in the minority on that.

I agree. Unfortunately that’s what sells more. That’s why I drink a ton of Pernicious.

Since someone mentioned Hopslam, I gotta throw out that Birdsong's Honey Pie DIPA is out now. Sure, it isn't quite as good as Hypeslam, but you won't have to stand in line to get it.

That first one was definitely the best one, but I still thought it was just okay. Been downhill from there, at least so far.

IMO New Anthem is the standard for IPAs in NC in terms of consistency/price/availability (I can get cans outside of the coast)
