https://www.newschoolbeer.com/2018/12/vagabond-brewing-portland-brewpub-aims-early-2019-opening.html How do you think this will do? I like Vagabond but only enough to visit them once every 6 months..and this is in Salem. They obviously have a some major cash behind them, but to be honest their beers are OK..just OK. I really see them as angling for an Inbev-Bud or SAB-Miller takeover.
I think they'll do well. The space looks really nice and they hired a veteran chef from Olympia Provisions to develop their food menu, which looks pretty good. It seems much "higher end" (for lack of a better term) than their places in Salem. As far as the beer, I feel like it's improved quite a bit in the past year or so. They've been putting out some solid hazy IPAs lately. Do you have any evidence to back that up, or are you speculating? I know those guys a little bit, and I seriously doubt this is their intention. I could be wrong, but I would be very surprised to see something like that happen.
Agree with @guajolote on all points. I think they're putting out some of the better beers in Salem these days. While I understand that may not necessarily translate to the Portland market I think the space and food (from what I've seen/heard) are going to help them to be successful. And yeah, they would be one of the last places that I would guess is heading for any sort of takeover. They are very invested in and dedicated to the local craft beer culture. Very glad to have them in Salem.
I stopped in there a couple years ago while my wife was shopping at the outlet mall up north. Good beers.
Was just me speculating. Maybe I should head up to Hyacinth Street see how they have progressed. Living down South Salem..we have most of the breweries here.
For anyone interested, they'll be soft-opening this weekend. 3 - 10pm Friday/Saturday/Sunday. You might want to try Victory Club if you haven't been there. It's owned by the Vagabond guys, usually has several Vagabond beers on tap (along with a lot of other good taps), and is downtown, so it's a lot closer to south Salem. Or there's the Vagabond Outpost in Albany.
been to Victory Club a few times..didnt try Vagabond beer. Those guys sure have a load of money behind them
Theyve been very invested in the Salem beer scene, which I appreciate and so I wish them the best of luck, but I've never had anything from them that I would describe as better than "meh."
