Just learned about the Answer when my brother received a crowler of Choc Rasp Puffsicle at a party in NY.

He’s now planning on stopping at the Answer on the way back from Florida and was asking me what I knew of the place, the prices and How much $$ to bring

I looked at their site and saw that most crowlers were $8-10/but that’s for IPAs and was pretty straightforward.

But looking for some, more clarification, please.

    1. And there’s no limit on IPAs there but w/o nitro, the consensus here seems that the crowlers dont last too long, right?

    2. But what exactly are the Andalls? Is that what they call their stouts? And I didn’t see pricing but this thread mentions they are $20/crowler. Is that right?

    3. What are Joose? Is that their name for fruit beers? Do they get sold in Crowlers as well?

He’s aiming to get there next week but sounds like I have to make a trip there on my own! The food alone sounds great!

    Thank you in advance.

    Great Questions:

    1. I personally never hold on to hop crowlers from anywhere for long. I don't feel like Answer hops fall off faster/slower than anywhere else I've had. These are generally unlimited and available any day.

    2. Andalls draft only adjunct stouts. Think high abv pastry stout with more adjunct than beer. Consistency can be like melted ice cream and a 5oz pour can feel like drinking a slice of cake in a glass. Many are cloying, but generally delicious. Most would not recommend a 4 pour flight of just these beers. They do not crowler/growler fill these. They have done one off crowler/swing top 12oz releases in the past but word is those are done.

    3. Yes and yes. The crowler he received was a Joose crolwer. They have a base berliner they make/buy (point of contention) that they throw in all kinds of crazy adjuncts (fruit, marshmallows, chocolate etc.). These are basically always on tap for pours. They sell Joose crowlers on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday only unless there is a special announcement around the holidays etc. Joose crowlers are $20 each. They are typically 2 or 3pp but some are unlimitted. They also have imperial and triple versions. Joose is 3.5% abv, imperials ~6.5% and triples ~9%.

Yes, the food is very good.

Further reading: The Answer is the brew pub. Mekong is a separate restaurant on the front side of the building. Same owner, different tap lists. But Mekong has been consistently voted one of the top beer bars in the country for years. Larger menu, delicious cheaper eats, and a giant guest taplist with otherwise out of distro beers like HF etc. Answer has its own separate guest tap list, but these days their beers are the draw. Answer is also known for a line of 8bit glasses that people go crazy for and often trade/sell for asinine values.

But looking for some, more clarification, please.

    1. And there’s no limit on IPAs there but w/o nitro, the consensus here seems that the crowlers dont last too long, right?
    - Some people have held onto Crowlers for some time without issue but whenever I get IPA Crowlers I tend to drink them within a few days but for the most part they typically do not last as long as cans filled from a canning line. IPA Crowlers are available every day

    2. But what exactly are the Andalls? Is that what they call their stouts? And I didn’t see pricing but this thread mentions they are $20/crowler. Is that right?
    - Yes. Andalls are their stouts. Well actually, I think the majority of the Andalls do not use their own house stout as base. It's typically some widely distributed stout not theirs. Maybe that has changed but they will typically run a bunch of adjuncts into it. They are definitely delicious just about all the time. Andalls are not available for Crowlers. On rare occasions they do release swing top bottles of Andalls and most recently they do release 16oz 4pk cans of some Stouts. I would check out their social media on these as they typically announce it maybe 1-2 days ahead of times if not just a few hours before opening.

    3. What are Joose? Is that their name for fruit beers? Do they get sold in Crowlers as well?
    - Yes. Fruited beers. They are available in Crowlers as well but ONLY on Tuesday, Thursdays and Sundays. All Joose Crowlers are $20 + tax. Joose is available on tap for pours every day

He’s aiming to get there next week but sounds like I have to make a trip there on my own! The food alone sounds great!

    - A few others things to note. You/he can get flights of any 4 beers for $12. This includes IPAs, Andalls, Joose. If you have Untappd, The Answer's taplist is available there and updated daily along with prices. I believe there is a link directly from their website as well.

    - If you are coming from out of town and want to share beers then be sure to drop off some stuff in 'The Giving Tree.' It's a cabinet outside on the deck right as you enter The Answer. People will drop of beers to Beer It Forward for someone else and if there's beers in there (almost always is something) you are free to take something (1/pp is the courteous thing to do). People will also drop off glassware, stickers, etc in there as well as An himself will even contribute stuff (glassware, Crowlers) from time to time.

    - If you are on fb then be sure to join Questions and The Answer group to keep on top of what's going on. If you are looking for Joose and don't happen to be in town on a day when Crowlers are available and want something there are a few locals often happy to grab stuff for others and meet up when you do arrive. Just post and someone will probably chime in to offer assistance. Also, probably the best beer group I'm part of online.

Can release tomorrow. Glad to see them trying out single cans and not 4pk minimums. Tried it in December during a visit and was fantastic.

Cans of Coco should still be available today - they had plenty around 9:30 last night when I left.

It was nice to see them have the per can option, but everyone I saw walking out with some had a 4 pack.

I am/was surprised it lasted all night. I was thinking the 1pp minimum would carry availability a little longer than normal when it was 4pk mins but figured most would be grabbing 4pks anyway and it would still sell out not too long after cans in the past have. It's good to hear the perfect scenario in my head did end up happening as I hoped in that cans would not sell out in a little over an hour and everyone who showed up yesterday hoping to grab cans ended up able to get some.

I saw some people post about the increase in case cost from the other cans from $28 to $30 4pk maxed out but I put that extra $.50/can cost to the price paid for them doing singles instead of 4pks. I did not make it but hope they conitinue to offer singles because I for one am not likely to purchase a 4pk for myself at that cost but would go for a couple cans if I happened to be in the area.

I mentioned being surprised there were still cans when I got there. The bar said they were surprised it was so dead. As someone noted in the Veil thread the weather was crappy and there wasn't a glass release and GOAT joose kicked by 6:30 if there were people planning to come by for that.

Regarding cost, coconut is an added cost (*shrug*) and I'm far from an expert but I've heard it zaps yield a good bit. If/when they do Vanilla Nipples I wouldn't be surprised if it goes up even more. These definitely aren't cheap cans, but I am really glad they (and TC) are allowing them to be sold as singles.

I wonder what kind of 8 oz container the Ennol Angus will come in.

If that size is true my guess would be the 1/2 pint cans like how some of the b1 Coconut Nipples made its way out to the Giving Tree back in December.

I still find it hard to believe that we live in a time where I can say what "my favorite Oreo beer" is.

That said, I would very much like to try what Answer does with it but doubt I'll be able to take the time to track down cans. Hopefully will grab it on tap at least.

I expect Colonel Angus to be very similar to Karl’s Massage Kitchen if not the exact same beer slightly tweaked. That had Oreos and French Vanilla Coffee as well as similar abv. I thought it was thick as Andalls often are but tasted delicious.

huh, I never saw those. That would be awesome if true, I’d love to have some 8 oz cans of imperial stout.

Not mine but an image from an Untappd check-in. Possibly a test run for a future release?

Stopped by this afternoon for G.O.A.T Joose, even though I hope the Pats lose, and surprised they still had Coconut Nipples cans. Since it has lasted nearly a week I would not be surprised if they did go back to 4pk mins on the next release.

Haha, me too, I was there Saturday and had no idea any cans were left. I would have grabbed one or two if I'd known, it wasn't listed on the menu.

3 news IPAs available today at 4pm open as well as glass release (300 @ 2pp) and 6 Fingers G.O.A.T. Joose. May also be worth the question to ask if any Coconut Nipples cans still remain as well for anyone showing up today.

The Answer dropped a big hint early this morning. Looks like at least one, if not both, will be releasing today (Sun) at Noon open.
