Ok, time for an actual beer post. This beer comes to us from @EMH73, with whom we joined for beer and food last night. We had a good time with him and his wife, and even got to bring home a pack of new beer (all of which we will not get to today). I debated starting with on of the IPAs, but I eventually we fairly typical with a morning stout - even though it appears (from the ingredients) to be more of a dessert stouts than a breakfast stout.

Singlecut ERIC - More Cowbell pours a moderately thin dark brown, bringing about a tan froth with some larger soapy bubbles. A head forms and fades with equal speed and intensity, leaving a few sparse bubbles to fend for themselves on the surface for a short while. There is a nice sheen left on the glass by the medium ring when the glass gets moved around.

For a presumed (by me) dessert stout, the nose is more like a standard stout. There's a light smoky char note to the roasted malts, without much coming from the lactose in either sweet or tang. I am wondering if I am imagining or truly getting a dark chocolate note when I inhale more deeply.

The taste does have a little bit of the tang that some milk stouts give, and is sweeter than the nose foretold. It is a very controlled sweetness, though - which is highly appreciated. The roasted malt continues to play a big role, but it morphs into a rich mocha coffee leaning espresso by mid-taste. There is a decent woody-to-char bitterness in the end.

The beer is medium light and flows easily across my palate. It also has a surprisingly clean ending, though I do start to notice a roasted malt/cacao lingering note after half the glass is consumed.

I am a bit surprised by this one, as for some odd reason I expected that the beer my try to bash me with boldness. It was a lot more subtle, and I appreciated it for that. It sort of had the feel and basic flavor of a Baltic Porter to me, with a little bit of the lactose and lingering notes of the cacao to add a little extra interest and fun.

Random picture of the cats chattering at a blue jay that was prancing around outside of their reach as I got this beer from the fridge:

Enough with the Walmart pop ups you can’t make go away, no matter what I do I win. It about shuts down this site for me this morning. Completely annoying as hell.

Good morning BA’s! I’m on my second pour of this morning ‘s new beer - Cycle’s “Joyous Almond (Roadtrip 2018)”:

I believe this beer was released originally in March 2017 as “Joyous Almond “; not sure if it was BBA (I don’t think so...) and Cycle sold out of it in November of 2017 and I missed out. Now Cycle has the Roadtrip 2018 series, and I believe this BBA version was released the middle of December 2018, bomber bottles for sale at brewery only...I got mine last week...

Poured at 57 degrees; inky black with ruby edges; fast thin fizzy brown head with aggressive pour disappears immediately; a copious amount of coconut pieces equals tons of floaties; no cap retention and thinnest of fleeting ring; upon swirl, very thin legs and not a dot of lace. 4.25

Strong booze/bourbon nose, followed by chocolate, coconut and almond notes; all aromas are distinct and present. 4.75

Sweet chocolate; the bourbon nose is stronger than taste; the coconut taste is much stronger than nose; nutty almond; plenty of bourbon but not boozy or sharp; dark fruit/dried raisins as liquid warms; solid bourbon and coconut finish. 5.0

Silky smooth creamy feel; medium plus body; moderate minus carbonation; no astringency or barrel booze; little to no warmth from 10%; small flecks of coconut felt on tongue; dryish yet sticky finish. 5.0

Overall, simply put, delicious; there is a coconut-almond linger that tastes natural and appealing, yet the bourbon/barrel flavors compliment the adjuncts beautifully; not overly sweet and the chocolate malt makes the whole taste like an Almond Joy that was soaked in a glass of bourbon before biting into it - if one were to so do, I’d assume the wet bourbon would dominate the initial olfactory sense, but the candy bar would immediately jumpstart the tongue; well balanced and at 10% very easy drinking. 4.75

I’m a sucker for coconut stouts and porters. I’ve sampled many, especially at the American Homebrewers Association conventions in years past. Today’s beer was not the prettiest, but the large amount of shaved coconut in the glass was a sign of possible good aromas/tastes to come - I was not disappointed; indeed, today’s stout is probably the best coconut stout I’ve had, and I’m going back to the brewery in the next day or two to buy more before they are gone. For those BAs not finding coconut in some offerings, coconut is out there, it exists in well made beers, and Joyous Almond is one such beer. Cheers y’all!

Good morning NBS! I was pleased to spot this at a larger supermarket chain whose craft selection consists mostly of a few locals and previously independent breweries that have been bought out by the big guys.

    My review copied and pasted:
16oz can dated 1/17/19 poured into a tulip
A: Hazy light brown with a lingering one-finger head
S: Fresh hops, mostly grassy, a bit dank, hints of orange zest and pine
T: Citrus up front, some tropical fruit, grass and a bit of malt
M: Medium-bodied, bitter but balanced by malt
    O: Well-made, tasty and worth a try

Overall straight 4.25s for me. Very well made and tasty don’t get me wrong, but didn’t quite live up to its average. Reading as I sip it the stories about the creation of this beer and the success its had for the brewery were awesome but imho it doesn’t quite match what the east coast is producing. Cheers!

Yellowhammer Brewing Frankenhammer Belgian Strong Ale. . .

Deep red gold color with lasting tan cap and good lacing.

Aroma of ripe figs that's a bit spicy and slightly vinous like old Oloroso Sherry.

Taste is a rich, complex mixture of dark ripe fruit, a touch of mild spice and dark chocolate. It's deep, complex and surprisingly refreshing given it's weight and strength. As it warms flavors come out a little more and the touch of spice is more apparent. I don't really get the clove/banana thing often found in Strong Belgian Ale but also don't really miss it here.

    Full texture with balancing carbonation.

An armchair drink that stands well against it's peers.

    Toppling Goliath - Pompeii

Toppling Goliath is new to NY. I will try to feature a few of their beers for NBS today.

Extremely hazy apricot color. Full bodied and prickly. Tastes of subdued mango with a tea-like bitter finish. Doesn’t come together, but the drinkability is good. This is a single hop beer with Mosaic. I enjoyed the Night Shift - One Hop This Time: Mosaic that I had before it more.

I'm mostly a lurker on this thread, but I encourage you to try Boss Tweed if you find it. It's a big step up from M-43 (which I like as well).

The nose on this is absolute heaven. The pineapple and peach smell fantastic, and make this one so enticing. The taste doesn’t quite follow through, as it’s a 1-dimensional fruit punch without much nuance. Still, quite fun to drink. Thanks again Charles!

I've dived so hard into the whisky world that I've been AWOL on NBS for 2019, but I've been peeking in here and there to see what y'all cool cats are up to. Keep up the good work, NBSers!

A delicious, rich cup of chocolate espresso. Not too sweet, and supported perfectly by roasty bitterness. 11% abv is not detectable. Body is super-creamy and goes down way too easy. Tempted to open one of the other variants you sent me, but these are too good to drink quickly! I want to savor them individually. Thanks again Chris!

    Howdy NBS!
Looks like Sunday is upon us again. I am not up to much of anything noteworthy today. I have been trying to get everything ready for taxes all morning so I could definitely use a beer.:weary: It is nice and sunny here today and I will probably just be hanging out the rest of today, I might even make it back here for another. We'll see.

I'm going to start today with a pilsner from the fine folks at Dunham. Not only have they started canning, but they have also started cranking out new beers quicker than they had previously and have been really busy in the collaborations department, most of which have been very good. I'm glad to see them doing well, as they are my favorite brewery in Quebec. I also want to have a moment of silence for my trusty spieglau IPA glass with the Wendigo holding a guy's skull on it. It died a horrible death this last week. I will have to see if they still make that one, as I really liked it and it always got comments on here. Anyway, as thin as those things are I'm frankly surprised it lasted as long as it did. On to the beer.
It pours as it should. Clear and gold with an ample head you can practically eat, and you can count drinks based on the lacing rings.
The aroma and flavor walk hand-in-hand with light malt flavors, hay, Autumn leaves and a touch of European hop character. It is supremely drinkable and manages to do that thing that fine (usually German) lagers can do where it is multiple complimentary yet contradictory things as once: it's rich and easy-going, substantial and light, creamy and crisp. Just a hell of a good beer.
I gave one of these to @papposilenus in December and he raved about it. He told me he hoped I had saved a can for myself. Well, like an idiot, I hadn't, but being polite I told him I had all while secretly hoping I'd see cans of it show up again, and also while secretly thinking that maybe he was exagerrating/being polite or had just being feeling more magnanimous than usual on the day he tried it. Well, fluctuating magnanimity aside, he was right. This is a great beer and pretty much exactly what I want in a beer like this. I'll keep an eye peeled for it in the future. Merci beaucoup, @eloid comme d'habitude, très bien réussite!

    Here is my real review.

    Cheers!

    Founders lizard of Koz
    ...pours a solid black
.. medium light carbonation with a just above average body
..aroma is milk chocolate and blueberries followed by some coffee and mildly roasted malt
..taste is definitely milk chocolate with the blueberry following but it wasnt overpowering, artifical, or just horrible which is how most blueberry additions taste to me. The base beer is nice but again not overpowering but it balances out well with the chocolate and blueberries
.. I am not usually a fan of blueberry in beer but mostly because of how fake it tastes. This really did taste like chocolate covered blueberries [IMG]
