This just in! Munster weather prediction for 5/18:

    High of 66(.6 I assume),
Low of 53 (According to Wikipedia, also “The number of Hail Mary beads on a standard, five decade Catholic Rosary (the Dominican Rosary).[6]”)

    Sunny with some clouds.
Chance of infected vanilla, people who won’t give you a sip of fundamental forces because your whale is a tiny, insignificant whale in a rapidly rising ocean, and pasty pastry bros spontaneously combusting in the global warmhole sun (won’t you come, and wash away the haaaaaaze)

I love Islay Scotch, and although I haven't tried Turtledogg, I think I would like it.

What I don't understand though is why every Scotch BA stout seems to be in barrels from Islay distilleries. I had a Speyside BA stout from Cloudwater last time I was in England, and it was really good. And it's not like there is a shortage of barrels. All of the best selling single malts have little to no peatiness.

Aren't Scotch barrels a complete disaster for the most part? I'd imagine a good reason why they aren't used to age beer often.

And you can just filter your beer through a mound of dirt and burnt plastic to get the peated flavor so there's really no need to even use barrels, but you can still put on the label that you did.

The most rarest "Islay" barrels available!

I'm right there with you regarding what I'm looking for in a Scotch. Islay Scotches are my go to, and I want the smoke and peat to punch me in the face (Laphroaig 10 for example).

My palate just doesn't agree with stouts aged in scotch barrels though - that mix of flavors just isn't for me

Yes...unless someone knows of a popular/in-demand/high rated Scotch BA beer that I'm unaware of.

I mean the actual physical condition of the barrels.

Gotcha...makes more sense now re-reading your post. That being said, I'll stand by the assumption that all Scotch BA beers are also disasters.

Paradox Jura by Brew Dog has good reviews. Small sample size?

Remind me the next time we drink together, and I’ll bring that and some good scotches and we can calibrate your palate.

I think you confused the press release as that is not a 2019 DLD band, it's a 2019 Dark Lord Variant.

I had never heard that, but it would make sense. Scotch is usually aged longer than other whiskies, and most scotch barrels are used bourbon barrels or used sherry barrels. So many of them might be approaching 20 years old by the time they are dumped.
