I feel like when people complain about Hill Farmstead for embodying whatever sort of "hipster hype machine" vibe they find so offensive, they're kind of just revealing how invested they are in complaining about weird imagined boogiemen. Or at least that they don't go to Hill Farmstead.

The pretrades. The hype. The general bitchiness. And the friggin secondary speculation.

You know, everything that’s so fun about this dumb hobby.

My post was not an attack on out-of-state patrons at Hill Farmstead. It appears many have misconstrued my original post.

On a personal level, I apologize if my words have caused you any unnecessary grief. That was not my intention.

I am glad that you were able to acquire a bottle of Samuel. I also think it would be a benefit to this forum if you could share your thoughts on what you thought of the beer.

    Cheers!

Anyone excited about this upcoming weeks releases? I'm in for sure.

CD 23 750ml and Table Dorothy 375ml, 3 each on limits. Its not gonna get the Samuel hype, but i'm kinda glad Samuel sold out Thursday, because i'd have gone up for that one bottle, and not wanted to trek up this weekend. Now, Ive got the itch to go up, and potentially walking away with 6 rare bottles this week opposed to 1, pleases me greatly.

23 sounds a lot like 22, with the addition of BA Anna involved, and 22 is awesome.

Is everyone else noticing the casual name drops in the past couple weeks' releases? 23 was in barrels that held Sarassin and Art. Samuel has the same hops as Vera and Sarrasin, etc. I don't really have a point, but it's not hard to see why people are getting amped up.

I love Table Dorothy and wish I was closer so that I could go. 23 sounds appealing as well.

same can be said for many of the people who bitch about Tree House. They're not gonna go themselves, but they're experts on why the people who do suck

Does anyone know if they're still doing the Leaves of Grass or single hop pale ale series? Haven't seen either one of those in quite awhile.

I think the single hop pale ale series became the single hop IPA series. Leaves of Grass, I have no idea.

No, the single hop pa and ipa are still 2 distinct series. I’d guess the former has been mostly on hold due to colder months. Folks want their beers heavier and boozier in the winter. Same reason we’re not seeing much Walden and Mary this time of year.

Hill started producing the Single Hop IPA series in late 2017. The switch was due to hop and harvest irregularities from farmers: reproducing the original batches (Pale Ale series) would likely result in inconsistencies and headaches. Thus, a new series was born, which takes into consideration the new demand in hops, and the suppliers ability to meet those needs without drastically changing production/compromising the quality of said hop

Shaun has stated in the past that Le Sarrasin and Vera Mae are among his favorite Hill Farmstead beers, and that Art b4 is the best beer he has ever brewed. He has also expressed his fondness of Le Sarrasin, WoL: SARA, and Elaborative 5, all of which he categorizes as underrated "sleeper" beers.

Any time Shaun references a beer from the aforementioned grouping in the descriptions/write-up for a new release, the public reception to that beer is favorable. It's his way of saying, "This beer is going to be really good," without spelling it out for us.

So, yes, you did have a point. It was a good point. CD23 is going to be a really good beer.

Shaun's beer is awesome blah blah blah. Lets talk about something serious.

Menu etiquette at HFS. Does anyone keep their menus?

So i've only recently started frequently going to HFS in the past year, and am far from a regular.

Menu's as many know, are printed on a piece of paper they throw out at the end of the day as they are no longer current. The have multiple locations to grab yourself a copy. I usually walk in, reach to my right, grab a growler ticket, a growler menu and daily offering menu. I actually keep my menu as a cheap keepsake, I reflect on it when I try to remember the beers offered that day, and what we tried that day. The novelty of HFS trips is still kinda new to me.

Standing in line, someone asked for my menu. I told him I keep mine, but pointed out where there are menu's for people to grab for themselves.

After I was called over to order, at the left register, outta earshot from the line, But my friend was still in line behind me and told me after. This dude was irate, cussing me out, saying those menus are supposed to be passed around and shared etc, etc.

Was I being a dick? Does anyone else keepsake their menus?

Reading through this original post, I don't think they discontinued the pale ale series but rather had issues with the hop varietals to maintain consistency of those pale ales. The IPAs are a separate series. I haven't really been paying attention to the pale ale series but it doesn't look like any of those have been canned since they introduced the first Single Hop IPA from scrolling through Instagram.

Just to clarify, Hill doesn't say they switched. They just introduced a new series and we've seen less or no pale ales since...

All this BS and not one person can speak to how Samuel is drinking or give a little review. Let's hear it.

Post indicates the drastic change in hops (Citra in this case), since first brewed in 2010, and that the “’original nature’ had…been lost in growth.” Perhaps they can revisit the OG series, but sourcing the integrity of the initial batches seems unlikely given the “increased acreage” and the inability to reproduce crop selection
