Do you see anyone complaining that the entire BCBS series is only barrel aged?

I agree, although I also wish GI would go back to at least making the non-BA BCBS-adjacent stouts they used to (Big John and Nightstalker). But really, FFF could do regular DL on tap and just bottle all BA. I'd even be willing to pay slightly more per bottle than right now, if they lowered overall ticket price (removing 4 bottles of DL and charging, let's say the equivalent of 3 bottles less, or something).

 

I'll join you on Dark Lord Island. I love regular Dark Lord. It's one of my favorite beers, period. I haven't even tried to get DLD tickets for the last 2 years, because I can just buy Dark Lords from other people basically at cost. Yeah, I miss out on the variants, but I have too much beer anyway.

 

Yeah honestly I think the vast majority of people attending DLD just want to access to the event itself, and the variant.

Sometimes I hear people make comments like "Why do people line up for Dark Lord, that beer sucks!" as a criticism levied at everyone attending DLD. I think that really misses the point of why people attend.

 

If you don't go to DLD, you're not running into this problem, though; instead of being stuck (in my case) with 8 bottles a year, you can buy/trade for as many or as few as you like. DL is probably one of my favorite non-BA stouts too, but there's almost no beer I buy in that sort of quantity (which, I know, makes me an outlier on this forum).

edit: Another fix might be making DL bottles smaller; I'd rather have 4 12oz bottles than 4 bombers (although not at the same price, of course)

 

Yes, we need more of this, but I'd prefer a bloodier ending.

 

I think FFF has expanded DL production so much that they are kind of stuck forcing people to buy 4 bottles at the fest just to get rid of it vs letting this stuff sit in their warehouse for pub sales or on shelves around the country....

 

Yeah, I probably don't drink more than 4-6 Dark Lords per year, so 8 bottles a year (10 if you count the variants) would be excessive. I would much prefer 12oz bottles (or even 16oz/500mL) to the 22oz bottles though. Hell, keep the price the same, and give us a 6-pack of 12oz DL and a mixed 2-pack of 12oz or 16oz bottles for the variants.
