FTFY. I realize the contraction of "could have" sounds like "could of", but come on people.

Gose, Gueuze, let's call the whole thing off.

I once got a free Hoegaarden in Vegas for pronouncing it right when I ordered it. Well, as right as the bartender knew.

I've been seeing it for years now. Don't understand why writers use it -- maybe to connote a character's education?

Everyone knows seal-a-canth, but that's still a difficult one.

Yeah, I'm tired of being corrected for my proper pronunciation of Who-gar-ten. I say that and then the server says, "Oh, you mean Hoe-Garden". NO, I DO NOT.

Of course they expect you want the "Wit," not the "Vit."

Just for your amusement, here's a Chuck Norris Russian (?) Hoegaarden commercial where everybody (no matter what language) is pronouncing it Hoe rather than Who. I don't know if it's a case of ignorance, culture clash, flexibility, or a deliberate case of "we're better off not fighting it."

Uh... you don't suppose we could be wrong?

I know I always said Hoe-garten way back when, but someone who knew Belgian (Flemish?) told me it was Who-garten... maybe it's regional colloquialism? In a very small region?

Believe me, the FIRST thing I assume is that I’m wrong. I didn’t want to present it as an option since I didn’t want to suggest that I doubted you.

Yet... you're suggesting that we doubt Chuck Norris. We may need some sort of witness protection. :astonished::wink:

I suppose, if it's employed consistently with other misuses and misspellings within an understood context (a quotation by a fictional character). Otherwise use of an incorrect homophone like 'could of' just makes the writer (and editor/proofreader) look bad.

I always switch back Lagunitas and Laguntas- Doesn't really matter because I really don't care too much for their offerings, (too sweet, weird yeast profile)

Okay, so there are no takers to my double dog dare. I don't want to leave you hanging, so here's the meaning of the name and the pronunciation from the brewery's website:

"Iechyd da is a Welsh toast which literally means "Good Health." It's like saying Cheers, Salute, Na zdrowie or Prost! See, beer is fun AND educational, but you always tried to tell that to ma & pa, didn't you?

Need it broken down further? Say: Yah-key-Dah. A little faster now. Practice it a few times and when you come visit, you'll fit right in. And, if you forget, we'll go easy on you...once."

    Iechyd-Da!

Coming from Massachusetts where even its residents can't pronounce the names of half the towns... couldn't care less, just makes them look silly

Coincidentally, I listened to an interview with Yvan de Baets today, and he also referred to it as just "De La Senne" at times. Well... that overrides everything.
