Ya, I agree with the part about him talking about himself. In the first 2 chapters, he's interviewed 3 breweries and DFH is the only real big one.

I think in the last chapter he praises Anheuser Busch for something or other, maybe the degree of standardization that they've achieved, which I thought was an odd choice and it was so long ago that i didn't have a chance to chuckle inwardly at it triggering the "purists".

Great thread idea. I don't think I ever read Bukowski without a beer or other booze in hand. Read Death in the Afternoon last summer while drinking Green Bench Postcard Pils in the keys.

I just finished both Rothfuss books. I'm really hoping this is the year for #3. I'm about 400 pages into The Way of Kings now. I reread Tolkien's trilogy last summer for the 3rd or 4th time. It's hard to read other fantasy right after that.

That was a good one. You might also enjoy "My Beer Year" by Lucy Burningham, which is part journal and part non-fiction, in which she studies for the Cicerone exam over a one-year period.

I have a Frederick Douglass biography and some Hazlitt on my nightstand.
I am always reading something from Sowell.

Currently I'm reading the shining, just finished some trotsky, thinking about embarking on the rights of man next. Economics for dummies may be on deck.

Well…. I'm usually reading something called......uh....Beer Advocate , while drinking my beer. You my have heard of it.:grin:
Mostly I read online. Too much to keep up with . + I can up the magnification. I got out of the habit of reading books because my eyesight was declining, plus being self-underemployed, then doubly-employed, but underpaid, during the duh-pression.:stuck_out_tongue: & losing most of my ever-expanding backlog of books to 3 floods. That said, since eye surgery 2 years ago, I have started getting books again.

One of my favorite writers is Chris Floyd, of Empire Burlesque (non-)fame. Unfortunately, busy-ness has reduced his output, so my hobby of understanding the (usually) hidden exploits of empire has expanded to books. My reading material is about 1/2 hobby/half professional. When forced to describe "Occupation", I list it as "Landscraper/Horticultist". Current books pictured below.

I like history, especially obscure history of regular people .
End up watching a lot of History Guy videos + Tony Robinson's Worst Jobs series

I go through Tunnel ~ once/wk in summer. My grandparents lived within sight of it before I was born. Btw, Ruth Bader Ginsburg lives in Sharon Springs, that he mentions at the beginning.

This is why I like Black Elk Speaks, The Immense Journey, and anything by Jim Harrison.

My eyes are failing rapidly. I inherited an angle towards glaucoma. My Mom had it. My brother and I were diagnosed a week apart. I cherish the physical nature of books, collect them with a plan, and hope to read for as long as I can.

I recently unearthed a box of my old Tintin comics from the mid 80s. I've found myself absorbed in Herge's world and a beer or two help me fully appreciate it. Perhaps I'll even crack a Cantillon for the next session to better transport my senses to the streets of Brussels (though I don't plan on getting Captain Haddock levels of sauced obviously).

Just back from the Tucson Festival of Books, where I felt like I tithed that entire operation...
13 books later, trying to make sense of what to read first... probably Sandra Postel's new book on water (Replenish: The Virtuous Cycle of Water and Prosperity). Cheers...

I love the Tony Robinson series! Pretty much any British produced historical documentary.

I enjoy a good beer while reading about one of fiction’s great beer drinkers: Rex Stout’s Nero Wolfe!

I'm reading a huge biography of ****** from Sir Ian Kershaw right now... fascinating read....

I tend towards non-fiction when drinking, not sure why?

I thought my retention while drinking would get better as I got older as I don't drink as much. Not so.
