    Happy New Beer Sunday!
This is a great coffee stout. I wish the coffee was a bit more prominent on the palate, but it's delightfully roasty with a silky-smooth dark chocolate backdrop. Another winner from Common Roots. They can make some great beers, for sure.

[IMG] Poured into a 13 oz Teku glass canned on 2/07/19. Pours a beautiful hazy orange yellow with a 2 finger sticky white head that leaves attractive clusters of white lace with nice retention. 4.5

Smell tangerine, pineapple, apricot, maybe a little spicy sweetness from the rye, and some very subtle grapefruit rind. 4.25

Taste follows tangerine, pineapple, apricot, a touch sweet, and a nice dose of grapefruit in the insanely balanced finish. 4.25

Mouthfeel is bigger than average, soft feel with moderate carbonation and that places very well with everything going on, not dry maybe a little sticky, and goes down very easy at 6.2% but has more flavor like 7%. 4.5

Overall this stuff is really excellent, I would love to crush these all day long. Thanks @jzeilinger for this one! 4.25

Good afternoon NBS and thanks to @lordofthewiens for the start today. I enjoyed reading about your trip. My wife is heading there in a few weeks to visit one of her sisters.
Today's offering is from our friends at Honest Weight, they are 20 minutes form us and a joy to have so close. A Pale Ale with oats, hopped with Chinook and Citra. The expressions in this offering are so well intertwined. I am thankful for a well balanced hop forward APA.

Poured from a fresh growler , 2 days old from the brewery.
A - Hazy goldenrod color. steady carbonation races to the surface, A thick white loose knit froth cap resides in full glory.
S - Orange is the dominant one here, add a very nice fresh pine to the mix, warm bread dough and a hint of apricot
T - Biscuit spread with orange marmalade, add a bit of pineapple, candied orange peel.
M - Medium in body, semi sweet start , then a quick bitterness runs through, a wonderful fruity linger balanced up against nice pine presence.
O - A very well constructed pale ale, interplay between the hops and a great malt/oat base is delightful. CArbonation is spot on with a quick to dry feel.

    Synopsis:
Very, very tart, with high acidity. Which is just how I like my fruited sours. I might have heartburn after this one but totally worth it. Lots of vinegary sourness, but blueberry is the most prominent flavor thankfully. This is my first Trillium sour, and its just as good as I’d hoped it would be. Thanks again @smanson56 !

FWIW, I usually come across the term "table beer" in reference to low alcohol, easy drinking beers brewed with Belgian yeast. A couple breweries local to me have made them and they weren't any more expensive than their other offerings. Then again, they were draft only beers with no packaging. I know in the wine world a "table wine", particularly a red, has taken on the mantle of being a wine where the winemaker isn't bound by as many rules as with the typical varietals and the wine becomes a vehicle of self-expression. Perhaps some table beers are being brewed with that ethos now.

Nectar and Knife from Triple Crossing and the last beer from @vabeerguy. Hint hint Mike. Pours a hazy medium orange with a one inch fluffy white head that left lacing all the way down the glass. Smells of citrus and tropical fruits along with some pine. Tastes of grapefruit, grapefruit pith, pineapple, peaches, mango, pine and resin. Medium bodied and carbonated, soft mouth feel, moderately dry and bitter finish. The bitterness lingers for quite some time (not that this is unpleasant).

Prairie Okie, 12% ABV. Pours dark brown with no head. Nose is strong dark fruit, plus moleasses, curry-like spice, nuts, and whiskey. Taste is sweet dark fruit, roast malt, moleasses, with moderate sweetness and slight bitterness. I keep picking up new things as it warms. Excellent mouthfeel, though slightly under-carbonated. Overall outstanding. There's a lot going on with this beer, incredibly complex.

We've got a high today of 3 below. No grilling so we're having salsa chicken. Takes seconds to prepare, toss some chicken and salsa in the crockpot, and turn it on. Salsa Verde in this case. That's it.

Tried something new today that wasn't a beer. When I was more active in this group I was writing all my reviews in a journal then typing everything out once again on this website. It got too time consuming so I basically quit reviewing. Today, however, I wrote my review on a tablet and copied all the info over to the website. Easily the quickest review I have done. Hopefully this brings me back to this group more.

A: Beer pours a dark black body with a creamy tan head that quickly fades away like most other stouts from Prairie. Minimal lacing on the glass while drinking.

S: The beer had a definite sweet smell from the bottle. Main aroma was of a chocolate fudge. Along with the chocolate notes there was also an roasted barley aroma coming from the bottle. Once poured the aroma profile is fairly similar with a slight coffee like smell as the glass warms.

T: Taste is is very close the nose of the beer. Chocolate sweetness is the predominant flavor. Also notice a toasty taste. Overall, the flavor the predominantly chocolate and one dimensional.

M: Mouthfeel is somewhat thin here. The chocolate flavor is not cloying like many sweet pastry stouts but wish for a thicker mouthfeel.

O: Doesn't match up well with what I expect from a Prairie stout. Very thin mouthfeel and one dimensional flavor profile. The nose of the beer was the highlight, but other aspects of the beer were only average.

    Good afternoon, NBS.

My review today completes the trifecta of barrel aged Behemoth from Three Floyd’s, as sent to me by The Junkie of FFF during the Can Can 8 BIF.

I recently reviewed the One Year Bourbon Barrel Behemoth and the Danish Cherry Wine version. The idea behind this review is to draw parallels and differences between the One and Two Year versions.

I’ve been drinking this for well over an hour and my notes are based on the beer approaching and reaching room temperature, which is where it currently stands as I finish this post.

Appearance: In the light this beer pours a murky, translucent, light brown color. As depicted it pours a dark brown, really burnt sienna color with some ruby notes. A beige head that struggles to sustain itself, settling to a thin ring around the edge of the glass and a thin layer of sporadically placed bubbles atop the liquid. No visible carbonation. Minor amount of lacing. Same appearance as the One Year.

Smell: The aroma is piney, lemony and earthy, black tea-like hops. Sweet caramel, toffee, vanilla. Dark dried fruit including raisins, dates, prunes. Some milk chocolate reminiscent of Raisinettes. Dark chocolate and cocoa. Some wood. And definitely some ethyl alcohol notes not present in the One Year. Alcohol and chocolate are new as compared to the One Year.

The aroma is slightly more woody and there is more depth driven by the extended bourbon barrel aging. The hops present just as strongly. There is more alcohol on the nose, but it’s supported by the added complexity. I prefer the nose on this beer.

Taste: Up front are the sweeter malt and bourbon barrel notes. Caramel and toffee are the dominant flavors, followed by dark, dried fruit including bourbon-soaked raisins and dates. There’s definitely a foil-wrapped, chocolate cordial aspect to this beer. The middle shifts to piney, lemony and earthy hop notes. Some bitterness. I’ve never had the base beer so I cannot comment on how the barrel impacts the hops/bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation. A definitive warming sensation on the palate and in the pipes.

Overall: This beer is excellent. I like the aroma more than the One Year as I think the extended barrel aging adds more complexity. The flavor is more woody, bitter and there is a discernible heat. I do think there’s also some added complexity to the flavor, without detracting from the beer via the additional chocolate notes.

My least favorite of the beers is the Danish Cherry Wine. It was not a bad beer. In fact, it was very good. As for the Bourbon Barrel Aged Versions? These beers are beyond reproach. Complex, while drinking cohesively and easily.

For those interested here are my reviews of the other two versions. Danish Cherry Wine was a full review and the One Year was cursory because I was just too caught up in the beer to be bothered with taking detailed notes.

    Danish Cherry Wine Barrel Aged(3.79/-7.6%)

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/26/34631/?ba=TheGent#review

No strange brews here. Just some exemplary bourbon barrel aged American Barleywine. I would’ve preferred to review all these beers side-by-side, but that would’ve put me in a world of pain. Disappointed that this is all I have left.

    @FFFjunkie

Thank you, Dan! I’ve really enjoyed all of these beers and getting a better understanding of what FFF is all about.

And once again, thank you @Jason1221 for the proper glassware!!

New Beer Sunday: New England IPA

Afternoon NBSers. This time I've got a report on a beer that tasted better than I’d expected.

This afternoon’s new beer is the Sixpoint Dabble. (It wasn't until I opened this one that I realized that there was coconut in there somewhere.)

As usual, my review, subject to revision until the beer is finished, can be found here:

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10607/169598/?ba=drtth#review

The aromas/flavors are full, rich, complex and have lots of depth to them. There’s some coconut, some mango, apricot, pineapple and melon. The mouth feel is juicy and there’s almost no bitterness. I’d say Sixpoint has hit the target again. I was also surprised to find myself actually enjoying the coconut-tropical fruit combination since I’m normally not a big fan of coconut. While I’d be willing to have another of these if offered I’ll not be going out of my way to find more of this one.

    Cheers, all!

Yesterday (for New Beer Saturday), Equilibrium blew me away with Hop Wave 6, an incredibly hoppy and smooth DIPA that I referenced in my first post in this thread. Today, I'm going back to the same brewery and even style, with Governing Forces.

No info on the can or the entry, so I don't know what hops were used, or any adjuncts. All I know is it's a hazy DIPA clocking in at 8%.

Sticking with my bottom line up front approach: this is a very tasty and solid DIPA, but it's not mind blowing like Hop Wave 6 - itself, one of the best beers I've had this year, along with TG's Supa Sumo and Westbrook's 7th Anniversary (again, see earlier this thread).

Bright herbs and mostly citrus tones, along with a touch of fruit, combine in a very lively package, the result being a drinkable, mildly astringent, very tasty brew. It's good, nearly great, but not quite world class for me.

Still sipping on the one year right now, and I like the black tea notes you mentioned. I didn’t mention them in my review earlier, as I was eluded as what to call that aspect, but that’s a great example.

    3.82/5 rDev 0%
    look: 3.5 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 4 | overall: 3.75

Bright yellow and cloudy body; frothy, soapy white head; thick but patchy; some flecks of foam sticking to the glass. Citrus and tropical fruit aroma; strong scent of tangerine and pineapple. Very juicy taste, following along the lines of the aroma; decent bitterness underlying the fruity and low-malt flavors. Medium-heavy body; slight tartness with some pronounced dryness overall.

A nice enough IPA, definitely leaning towards the citrus and juicy side of things.
    -------------
Although a pretty decent beer, I much prefer Odell's 'Mountain Standard Double Black IPA'. It's more distinct in character and appeal to me.

Otherwise, it's a cold day along the front range of the Rockies. I'll be lighting another fire in the fireplace soon now that I've got today's soup going - 16 bean soup with a smoked ham hock.

In the mean time, I've started watching 'Baby Doll' on TCM, but have currently muted the sound to listen to "The Thomas Jefferson Hour" on the radio.

This is shaping up to be a fine cold, snow, and entertaining Sunday...

Second Sunday in a row for me with a NE IPA, and this one I did not like so much.

    Central Waters Tangerine

Strong citrus juice aroma - orange, grapefruit, tangerine, smells slightly tart/acidic. Nice orange color, just marginally brownish, so hazy as to be opaque. No visible carbonation. 1/2 inch white head from a vigorous pour fades to a very thin cap quickly, leaving some sparse lacing behind. Very, very juicy flavor - very ... as with the aroma, tangerine, orange, grapefruit. Thin body. Some bite in the finish and aftertaste, which actually seems more like citric acid bite than hops bittering. Overall taste is pretty much just a slightly tart/acidic juice drink. Very little malt flavor or body in there anywhere. It is very one dimensional. All juice. No beer.
