I proncounced Lagunitas "lagoon-itas" until someone within distribution range corrected me.
I work in a liquor store, and someone was asking for "Something like Blue Moon, its called Who-hot". Finally figured out it was Hoegaarden. At least they pronounced it "who" as opposed to the usual "ho".

That was one of the thoughts I had! Another was that maybe I should have kept the Cane and Ebel instead!

I have a buddy that will always order Hoegaarden and pronounce it "who-garden" because that is how it is said in Belgium. I agree with him on the pronunciation, but whenever the bartender/waitress says "you mean ho-garden?" he will say no and reiterate the "who-garden" and tell them they are saying it wrong. All the while the rest of us will sit their shaking our heads at him explaining that it is a losing battle and to just accept the beer and enjoy it.

Actually the beer and the philosopher are both spelled Pliny however only the latter is pronounced pli-nē.

I think with Framboise, a lot of people leave out the 's' sound at the end and it seems like half of the world doesn't know how to spell Guinness (see posts above). I'll admit it, I don't know how to pronounce Hunahpu......(hoo-nah-poo)?

I had a friend who knew a ton about homebrewing and the science behind beer, but less about craft breweries. For over a year he would pronounce gueuze as "gweh-zay." I tried to pronounce it correctly around him, but he didn't change his pronunciation until just recently.

Can't tell you how many different pronunciations I heard this past weekend for Hunahpu:
    Hoo nuh foo
    Hun ah puh
    Hun ah poo
    Hoo nuh pah

    Good stuff.

I was in a bar down by Wall Street about 10 years ago and got to talking with a guy who was drinking out of a Chimay glass. This guy was clearly an ahole, but I proceeded to ask him if he was drinking a "Chimay Red" based on the color. He looked at me sideways and in his most spoiled rich kid voice said, "It's not a Red, it's a Dubbel". I smiled at him in amusement and took that as my queue to order a Chimay Red.

I really don't care how you order a Chimay, but his arrogance and ignorance rolled into a nice punchline for me.

Vinnie Cilurzo has said that his Pliny should rhyme with mini. But then again, he himself pronounces it wrong pretty consistently, so knock yourself out (just don't say it the other way near educated folks if you don't want to sound like a hillbilly.)

I recently requested my local Cicerone to tap some Cantillon. One problem, I didn't know how to pronounce the brewery. I said Can-til-lon, or Can-tea-yon, and happened to be right the second time. Had I hardcore said the former, I would have come off as a dumb-ass.

My request to linguistic BA members: If you hear a commonly mispronounced beer/brewery/beer style, would you kindly state the correct title? Completely random pronunciations are encouraged, as long as it is spelled out similar to the first paragraph.

As a history teacher, I've always had the attitude that just cuz Vinnie says it Ply-knee, doesn't make it right...
