FWIW, El Segundo PD doesn’t care to much about the drinking as long as it isn’t obvious and the people aren’t causing problems.

    Here's a positive post:

I like Three Chiefs. Great guys, really. If you meet any of them in person, they are among the most generous and friendly people in the beer community.

And Charles is a really talented brewer. I've tried several of his homebrews over the years, and also some of the collaborations he did years ago with Good Beer Co. Really tasty stuff, in my opinion. He has made some excellent farmhouse/saison/mixed fermentation beers, some good IPA's, and the huge stouts have been mostly delicious. I wish them every success.

Do I think the beers are worthy of the considerable praise? I don't know if I can really answer that. I haven't made it to any of their recent releases, and I haven't tried any of the crazy concoctions they've released since opening (Faha/Brulee/Horus collaborations, etc.). But I wouldn't be surprised if the beers are truly wonderful, and I also understand the backlash and negativity surrounding them. Their approach to branding, release strategies, social media, and even brewing styles has really made them a lightning rod for criticism in this day and age.

I haven't chimed in on this thread because I don't have all that much to add about any current/recent releases, and the negativity is mostly coming from the same... few... people... over... and over... It's just kind of a tired argument. But it is kind of funny to me that one of the best ways I've been able to keep an eye on the goings-on of Three Chiefs is to follow BA haters talking shit about the next thing they're doing.

I wish people would chill out and live and let live, but the next time you are able to persuade someone on the internet to table their aggro complaints might be the first time in history this has happened to anyone anywhere.

grabbed cans over the weekend. wasn't packed around 11:30 but didn't get a pour since I couldn't get one without a glass. hopefully that'll be possible on the next one.

The three guys (chiefs) behind the brewery are Chamorro (with families from Guam). There were tribal chiefs in Guam, hence the name.

Same shit goes on in the Horus thread. It's baffling to me the energy that some people expend on something they don't like.

This thread is ridiculously tame compared to the original Three Chiefs thread.

You won't be disappointed. Their stouts are some of the best in the country.

Three Chiefs encapsulates everything that is wrong with craft beer. Funny to see people try to defend them.

I am glad that stouts don't excite me or else them + Horus might actually drive me away from this hobby completely

I wonder how many people active in this thread have actually had Three Chiefs beer.

Normally I'd agree, but there's been many of us making the same complaints not only on this thread but on the previously locked thread. Perhaps they just automatically ignored the revival on this thread, and I wouldn't blame them as these guys seem to be a conduit. But you are asking on a public forum so don't take it personally if others respond.

These were some of the highlights from the previous thread:

I would say the ones with the negative comments haven't even had 3C's yet. I had UNO the other day and I have to say that it was a tremendous non adjunct stout IMO

I'll chime in then. 3C...is meh. I don't like the hype model they are using, but shit...it is an old model that has constantly worked out well, so it would be dumb to not use and abuse the same thing.

    Beers I have had:
    Boutit Boutit
BA Boutit Boutit (I do believe they still had their name on this collab)
    FAHA
    UNO
    Jungle Juice

First one was overly sweet, but I expected as much since it was a collab between 3C and JWakefield. Second one was better since it seemed to have the barrel character mellow out the overuse of adjuncts. FAHA ...meh...such a mess. UNO, better...but that told me that they don't know how to use adjuncts properly since it turns their base beer into an almost disaster. Jungle Juice...yeah...just no.

Love the beer and will buy every bottle I can get. Not sure about the brewery's marketing or sales tactics to create "hype", but no one is forced to buy it..

This thread is a microcosm of whats wrong with our society as a whole. No one listens to the points being made by the other side.

One side: I don't like this brewery because they have shitty business practices.

Other side: I bet those haters have never even tried the beer, its great beer!

Like many things in life, both sides can be right. I have never had any of their beer, but I willing to believe its great beer.

I also can believe they are perpetuating things I hate about this hobby. Inflated secondary prices, artificial scarcity and hype stouts that are purposely over priced.

If you don't care about these business practices then I totally understand you wanting to buy their beer and support their business. However, not understanding why some of us have decided they aren't worth the trouble because of their strategy, well I don't know what to tell you.

I know some will say the way they do business is just how it is with craft beer. I just refuse to believe this because there are so many other breweries thriving who don't participate in any of the nonsense hype, fomo, scarcity.

All good, bro. In all fairness, I have a good number of Chamorro friends and know the "three chiefs." Still can't put myself (or my family) through the craziness to wait or get their beer every time to support them.
