I got there pretty late and it was still at 2pp so with more cans they keep the limit higher for a longer period of time. While the past few releases have been at 1pp by the time I get there.

I just said the same thing to my wife. It’s always just under to just over an hour. Probably could’ve made this one if I saw the notice. Man, have to say this one looked good, too.

the stout sounded awesome, but man you (or at least I) need a couple friends to take down 32oz of something like that.

I've finished quite a few of them on my own... one at a time, of course. You feel pretty good after.

Pretty funny to see the Troon release leaks network get laid bare on FB yesterday.

Guy A made post on trade site asking for "today's" Troon release prior to 5pm.

Guy B got extraordinarily upset that Guy A posted about this, attacked Guy A, and made it out to be a travesty... even though, you know, Guy B also knew about the release early lol.

Somehow Guy B thought that Guy A was "putting a Brick Farm employee's livelihood at risk" (even though A. it wasn't at risk in any discernible way and B. if leaking this info was that egregious of a sin then maybe it should be at risk?), and complained about Guy A "undermining Alex's business model" ("You don't know Alex I guess you wouldn't understand" lol) even though, once again, Guy B knew about this too lol.

All signs pointed to Guy B simply getting upset that his personal honeypot was no longer as valuable with this info out in public.

Wonderful drama to follow while I cooked dinner.

Too funny. I love the guy being upset mostly because he doesn’t want his insider advantage spoiled. Heard about the leaking before, which I guess is why so many people get to a place in the middle of nowhere immediately when releases are posted usually at 5-5:30 at random days during the week. Also why the same crowd always gets beer (along with random people who get lucky.).

I'm not an insider. I've gotten a few recent troon releases as I work a half hour away and happen to be on my way home when they announce. But I have no reason to take one side or the other on this argument. Here is my take:

Why does it matter? If some BFT employees, or friends of the brewer or the owner, know about releases in advance, so what? If I owned a brewery, and made awesome beers, you bet your ass my friends would get a "wink, wink, why dont you come by BFT for Happy Hour on Tuesday" message from me. No one is harmed by this. The bulk of the release goes out to the public, first come, first served.

Also, would you get offended if he held back a case for his buddies? How is this any different?

    Excellent summary! Lol...

@Mrstiffington for the record, there are those of us who legitimately live close enough to make most every Troon release without inside info. I swear I have nothing to do with leaks or leakers. I loved seeing it all get exposed and watching certain people squirm.

I think you’re misunderstanding my post. Maybe I wasn’t clear so I apologize. I find the whole situation amusing I’m not offended or upset at all just entertained. I myself live fairly close but usually can’t get there on time for various reasons. I’m glad people who live close by can get it. Reading the post above mine that’s exactly my point of view on the whole thing.

I canguarantee that Alex & co already know that BFT employees 'leak' the release. There's just nothing that can be done about it... those people didn't sign an NDA and I am not sure the guys at Troon are the type to want to ruin someone's livelihood over it anyways.

Kind of funny though that these people think they're running some sort of secret information network. Nah, bro. They drop the kegs off early, and people line up before the keg is even tapped. Doesn't take a fucking genius to realize what happened lol

Also, I can confidently say that friends don't get inside info on release drops, or at least I personally haven't before

I know the Troon fanboys will disagree with me, but here is my take: their hoppy ales are outstanding. Large majority are some of the best I've had (Hunger Pangs in particular), but there have been a few that were just OK--but because of scarcity and what I think might be called halo effect all of them are revered even if flawed. The same thing will happen with Inspissated.

I thought Inspissated was middling compared to other beers of similar style. It was basically just a heavily adjuncted stout. The nose had a weird, savory smell. The flavors advertised are there but don't meld together very well. Not smooth at all. Slight sour taste toward the finish (don't want to say infected because I don't know enough about brewing process to make that kind of call).

Can't describe better; i'm not great with tasting notes. But I followed this with Morning Bell from Kane which was perfect. If Inspissated was released with a Demented or similar brewery name on the label it would get no hype at all.

Secondary/grey market resellers. Which barely gave a look at Troon until the day they switched to crowlers.

And I agree with you regarding Troon's beers. Hoppy ales are in most cases very good to excellent. Homers over rate them every single time though. Stouts can be good, but not as good as people pretend. Their fruit smoothie beers for me are horrible. Kettle sours are meh.

The thing is Troon has been commodified (beer in general has), so homers will never be honest because they like the trade and resale value to stay high. And I say this as a homer. Lol.

Fair opinion, I think out of the 50+ beers I've had from Troon, only a handful have been less than great. But scarcity artificially inflating ratings applies to pretty much every brewery.

I haven't drank Inspissated yet & I haven't had Morning Bell yet, but Kane's other 'hype stouts' have all been let downs from what I was expecting. They're ironically more difficult (and more expensive) for me to get too. So, to each their own, I guess.
