Dark Lord Day (2019)

So, this has obviously been the tamest year for this thread in a while. Usually we are many pages deep and there is much variant talk and other speculations. @kodt, anyone...why?

 

Handjee was at Huna--a late roster change. By far the longest initial line.

 

Their destructive force knows no bounds. I heard they are barrel-aging Matt Pike's head for the coup de grace.

 

They've oxidized craft beer.

 

I enjoyed Mikerphone for a week or so. Hype was > their beers. It’s so immediate gratification these days. I had Mikerphone pre Mikerphone and More pre More. Great couple of brews between the two and then...great couple of brews between the two plus hype x2.

Three Floyd’s seem to be keeping things tight lipped too. Two weeks out from ticket sales, and pretty much no details on the website.

 

There's usually no details provided outside of the official event date before tickets go on sale. At least that's my knowledge from the past few years.

 

I mean they at least tell you the ticket price and what is included before.

As people pointed out, the beer scene is saturated with more quality offerings than ever before. FFF no longer holds the lofty place in the beer pantheon it did a few years back. Remember when they were THE hoppy beer place in the midwest? Now there are many better local places taking the hop game even more extreme. Remember when their BA offerings sold out in a weekend if not sooner? Now BA offerings are everywhere and even more not normal.... I used to go to DLD to try a really high level of national whales we would never see locally. Now, most of those national whales are easily found porpoises and most of the drafts are local dolphins...If a person can walk into Beer Temple, drop $300 and come out with a more impressive tasting line-up it makes DLD kind of out dated....If DLD was nothing but, KBBS, FO, Treehouse/Veil/Hill Farmstead, etc. it's one thing but, most of the draft beer is no longer exciting.

There’s plenty of stuff on tap at DLD you will never get at Beer Temple. But if you find Monster Tones at BT, please let me know before anyone else. Just because they may have a lot of stuff on tap that may not be at whale level status doesn’t mean they don’t have a bunch of hard to find beer.

 

Oh good. I can camp out all day waiting for a whale to come on....oh wait, which of the 7 tents do I camp in front of? There was a time when everything on draft was new an unique and not something you could get outside of visiting a brewer's brewpub at the exact correct moment. Those days are long gone.

 

I know a guy who can get you into some really stylish, yet comfortable sweatpants to wear while you camp out. LMK.

 

DLD is still a really fun event with a ton of quality and rare beers, which only adds to the best share I’ve experienced. 3Floyds has also added to and improved the event over the years, with the variants being much more readily availble.

You want to sit on your ass and drink good beer at home, well good for you. Seriously... good for you. Some people want to step out of the comfort zone every once in a while and enjoy the shit show that DLD is still. I can’t wait.

Keep yelling at that cloud. My guess is that part of it has to do with the beers of yesteryear becoming more accessible...which is good. Things like Darkness, CBS, etc. used to be much more exciting but now that everyone can get them, they don’t get love at festivals anymore.

The plus ones of him and his buddies has me at full attention.
