Yeah, what was it? $80 for the 6 and the glass? I was willing to pay it though

I was in line at the closest Total Wine to me in MD at 05:50 that day and was 2nd in line. 2+ hours later, I had a Westy’s 12 package with the 2 chalice glasses. Got back in line and was fortunate to get another pack. One bottle left in my cellar. Plan to have it soon. So good.

That's a good question, I don't have a good answer though. I had one within the first few weeks, another a year or so later and remember thinking it had improved, gave a couple away as gifts and don't think I've had one since. I'll have to open one soon and see how it is. I'm not good at comparing beers from several years apart however, I'm always impressed when people can taste subtle differences from beers they tasted years ago, but I can't trust my memory that far apart with any kind of certainty.

I don't think it does, I feel like there's far more threads about German beers than Belgian beers.

Although I always forget that people go ape shit over lambics/Gueuze.

And this was my fault, I started it by saying it would be weird to have St. Bernardus Abt. 12 in cans.

It's a simple curiosity of mine. I noticed that when people speak of imports in the American context, they usually refer to Belgian beers more often than German, and Belgian beer tends to have simply more prestige when it comes to discourse and how these beers are disseminated. A beer bar tends to think first of stocking Belgians before German beers, at least around where I live.

Back to the topic at hand , it looks like these have landed on the shelves in certain places. A little birdie told me that they're available in eastern Wisconsin, packaged in 4-packs

I was going to guess that it was because Belgium leans more towards high ABV options than Germany does (geeks do love their ABV), but there are an awful lot of low ABV lambics/gueze on the beers of fame list so that would seem to kill that theory.

Maybe it's that Belgium tends more towards beers that you sip and savor (regardless of ABV) rather than beers that you often have several of in a sitting? Something about the former seems easier to covet than the latter.

Nothin' in Southeastern Wisconsin as of today. Salvator, Weizen, Amber Märzen, and Wiesn Okto on shelves -- no (Paulaner) Helles of any packaging.

No, but sours are more "intense" in flavor than most German styles. It's high ABV, but also bold flavor that the beer geeks love.

I like a nice Gueuze every now and then, but I'm more looking forward to these fresh cans of Paulaner.

I figured that's where you were hinting. Just me, but it seems like Kenosha County isn't stocking as much German beer as it used to. Then again, it looked like there were a lot of empty spaces on the shelves at Woodman's -- not just imports.

On the other hand, I counted no less than 7 craft-brewed Bocks, Maibocks, and Doppelbocks -- majority Wisconsin-brewed.

Had my wife check at Woodman's Madison today, no luck

I'm sure they will appear sooner or later.

Hefeweizen cans popping up in my area.

It's wrapped in plastic, I don't know why that bothers me, but it does.

Not enough to not buy it though.

Do the cans have the yeast sediment? Major flavor loss if their aren't adding yeast during the canning, like a bottle has.

@AlcahueteJ is calling them Hefeweizen, not Kristalweizen... is that what's on the cans Alca?

$7.99 for both the Helles and yes, the Hefeweizen.

Says "Hefe-weizen" on the cans, and even says, "#1 Selling Hefeweizen in Germany".

Yup, I confirmed this yesterday for the sake of the thread.

I even tried to decant so I could try it with and without the yeast, and even while trying to decant it was still cloudy.
