I think he had one too many Tavern Cuts or was really excited for the gluten free beer that went on....

I'm going to cross-post this here as it will probably be one of the busier threads over the next 2 weeks, and is more local than the general Breweriana thread. I'm giving away a bunch of glassware since I'm moving next Wednesday. If you're near Logan Square, please come take it so I don't have to pack it and take to the Salvation Army. I know someone will want a Cantillon or Westy 12 taster. Only catch is that you have to take the rest of the glasses. Details here:

Didn't get a whole lot of the barrel. Cinnamon sugar with just a little bit of spice and citrus.

Haha, I was way behind on this thread and I guess I forgot to quote you.

Edit: I didn't drink last night, so maybe that's the problem...

I think part of the reason threads and niche forums in general are dead is because of Facebook. Tons of people out there just can't be bothered to use the "real" internet anymore.

I’m just here for tradition. This thread always keeps me going until Darklord day.

No posts all day? Fine, I'll bite.

Accuweather forecast for Munster on May 18, 2019: 77°/58°, 0 in precipitation, Low clouds, warm

I'm sure it's not going to change at all because that's about as perfect as it gets for DLD.

Too much entertainment going on in other threads for a brewery that hasn't even made beer yet.

I haven't been to Dark Lord Day since you had to start buying tickets to go. I might go this year. I was wondering do they have the current years DL variants available to try on tap? Or the year before? I remember when I went last, you had to wait in line to get into the brew pub where the variants were. Also, what can I expect to try on tap in general. Guest taps? Is like the 15th Anniversary party where they just kept throwing on random barrel aged stuff? Any info at all would be great? Thanks!

Last year they basically had all of 2018 variants on tap (they may not have had all but most) and some were on draft more than others. They had Handjee ‘18 available toward the end of they day for quite some time but they only has Hung Drawn ‘n Quartered on tap once in middle of the day. They also posted last year when they were going to be tapping what variant and at what location. They also had a couple of vintages (like Ronaldo) if I recall correctly.

You also may want to post the questions in DLD 19 thread (https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/dark-lord-2019.573098/ ) Might be some shenanigans with responses but you’ll possibly get more info as well.

Yes pretty much every variant will be on tap somewhere throughout the day (maybe 1 or 2 never made it on tap). Some vintage variants as well. Last year they actually published a tap schedule for the variants and FFF barrel aged stuff.

Multiple vintages of regular Dark Lord will be on tap, other FFF barrel aged stuff will be on tap.

Then there are lots of great guest taps which cover a range of styles from hoppy, to barrel aged, to sour etc...

The brewpub is closed for the event and all of the food and rare taps are outside, no more waiting in that crazy brewpub line!

https://darklordday.info/ has more info but here are some links that give an idea of what beers were on tap the last few years (note these lists are not exhaustive and are missing a good portion of the beers that were on tap)

Just to clarify the good info already provided. If you are thinking that you can walk up to a stand and order any and all of the variants, that likely won't happen. Variants will come randomly or timed and people will be lined up deep in advance for them. I have no doubt you'll be able to try a handful with minor diligence. Sometimes standing in line for a specific one would result in a keg kicked and an wait for naught. Other times there would be no line for some variants because it was on earlier and everyone was in line for a more hyped one.

Line cutting and line splitting chaos was rampant, so be vigilant/appropriately aggressive (don’t be a jerk, but also don’t stand in a line that isn’t moving, because it’s probably a fake line).

We were coordinated last year - our group had “assignments” of which taps to dash off to, and who would set up our hang out space. It was super effective. One or two people struck out, but we ended up getting more variants than we were able to consume ([dark] lord, you know I tried), and ended up giving pours to everyone walking by.

Guest taps were a mess for me. Some breweries posted tapping times on Twitter, but I just couldn’t ever make it happen. @croush - you owe me modem tones or whatever. I ran around like a crazy person trying to find you for that, and ended up getting lost and distracted.

The best advice I got in my first year was - don’t stress about beers. They’ll come to you. Share and wander around and hydrate and you’ll luck in to all sorts of crazy, fun stuff. And don’t forget to try peoples’ local favorites - some of the no hype beers are the best surprises.

Who wasn't lost and distracted at DLD, though? I thought that was the goal...drink with your buddies until you get lost and distracted, and then it's a very hard game trying to re-convene.

Be suspicious of someone who sits down at your tasting table and doesn't talk pretending like they just needed to sit. They are likely scoping your table for bottles to steal... happened to my group last year.
