Not having to pick up your bottles early due to the change to random variants was awesome. I stay past group E so I see no reason to care which group I'm in anymore. Less time carrying around those heavy bottles and less time to worry about needing to attach a paintbomb to my bag to thwart thieves.

It literally says on the DLD website that the variant is random. Yeah, I know it can change but why would it. The way they've been doing it has been so smooth.

Recruited brewers have always been able to choose their DLD variants at DLD. coughsidedoorcough.

Unless they made 10,000 of each variant so everybody could get their 1st choice.

Absolutely, I don’t doubt your noticing skills. But you won’t get notice that it changed.
It says without. Not with. Without.

You show up. First come first serve on variants. Sorry group zj, vintage bottles for you.

If you’re late enough, I wonder if you’ll get 2020 vintage. A bottle with a make your own label, some sugar, some malt, some hops, some other things that purportedly go into dark lord and a water bottle.

I just go with Best available, and then I plan accordingly. I’ve always been right in the middle. Random variants, so if you don’t have anything to do that day it really doesn’t matter what time you get your bottles. Pours were awesome last year, although it was pretty crazy that they didn’t do a limit. My buddy asked for 8 pours of Handjee as a joke, and they were going to give it to him. Of course he couldn’t carry that many so he just got 5.

They were supposed to limit it to 2 pours per person, and from what I saw they pretty much did that until after group E. Then as things thinned (and the pourers got drunker) they seemed to care alot less.

This year will be my 11th in a row, so I've seen (and "slept" through ) many things: fights, hissy fits, altercations, temper tantrums, scraps, skirmishes, throw downs, arguments, disputes, run-ins, square ups, and **** punches. And don't get me started on kerfuffles.

I've always heard the stories on thievery - never experienced it myself. Could it be because I was doing the stealing myself? We'll see.

I remember a couple times the bands leaked ahead of the announcement but I haven't heard any rumors this year. Also, didn't this thread used to be 60-70 pages deep this time of year?!

I am guessing less interest this year, maybe continuing the trend from last year when tickets lasted later in the day than the year before?

As far as the event itself last year, still had a great time but I did notice that in almost every line I was in, I was the only one sharing beers with people. This used to NEVER happen - everyone had beer to share in the past.

Are hardcore / original DLD'ers leaving the scene? I can see it - whenever anything gets too popular and mainstream a lot of people bow out, myself included usually. But I continue to have a good time every year so in spite of my wife's objection, I'll be there this year (assuming I get tickets). God this event used to be a clusterfuck, though. Really, really poorly run in some of those years. Now they seem to be getting their act together, and it's waning in popularity?

Feel free to put me on blast, because I really don't know what I'm talking about - just guessing.

I don't think tickets lasted later, I think the system couldn't handle stuff or people had 20 devices open reserving tickets in queue which meant tickets weren't available early on but, kept coming back out as queues timed out without purchase. They sold out same day.

I had people offer beer in line but, I've been for close to 10 years and never shared beer other than what I'd gotten on draft. If you want to share there is a dedicated tent for that....I don't think it's waning in popularity, they seem to expand every year.
