Received this beer in trade and cellared it for awhile and decided to crack it today, as a NBS BIF hint!
    2016 Parabola
Pours a dark brown with ruby hues on the perimeter, love the color but unable to generate any head and the appearance was a bit disappointing. Taste was mostly barrel and sweet fruit. I wished I had this fresh as I guess two years of age took a bit off this one.

Good evening NBS, hope everyone is enjoying the end of the weekend once again. Thanks to @lordofthewiens for today's introduction. I really hope the mocking and bashing of me stops at some point. I have enough sanity and self esteem problems as it is, and to have people ridiculing me just makes me feel worthless. Medication can only keep me so far out of the ditch. It's been bothering me all weekend. /rant

I did another mini pub crawl close to home to restock some prowlers/prowlers of new beers to review today. I was planning on hitting up a new brewery up in Holly, but couldn't fit it into my schedule this time. Will try and make time next weekend. There are a ton of breweries within an hour drive of my apartment, so I will not be running out of stuff to review any time soon. I got a ton of prowlers to use for filling. Also made an IP trade with an untappd friend yesterday, so I am super stocked up now.

    Beer:

Very nice fruit wheat. Fantastic lasting head retention/soapy lacing. Flavors of big juicy/lightly tart/tangy mango, apricot, melon, fruit skin, peach, pear, strawberry, pineapple, grapefruit, and citrus peel/zest, and light peppercorn/pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, biscuit dough malts; lighter notes of banana, bubblegum, clove, herbal, floral, grassy hops; and yeast earthiness. Similar/muted aromas. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, floral, grassy bitterness; yeast spiciness; and light fruit/wheat tang/tartness on the finish. Medium carbonation, medium-plus body, and fairly crisp finishing. Balanced creamy/bready/grainy wheat, sticky hops, and light fruit tang/acidity/ Light lingering resins/rinds through the glass. Light-moderate increasing bitter dryness, light lingering hop/fruit astringency, but not overwhelming. Very smooth, not overly aggressive, minimal warming 7.1%. Great balance between juicy fruits, citrus/fruity/earthy Belma hops, American wheat yeast, and bready pale/wheat malts. Mild residual sweetness with lingering resin dryness. Really delicious. 3.86

Hello, my NBS friends. On a beautiful St Patrick’s Day in Northern Indiana (and my 29th anniversary), I’d like to thank @lordofthewiens for the launch today. I’m an IU-Bloomington grad (Class of ‘85), so I’m definitely a big school guy.

I had a great experience at IU, especially IU basketball. Bob Knight was the coach, and anytime you get to witness one of a sport’s icons at work, up close and in person, it’s pretty cool.

IU basketball for me is similar to OSU football for my beer nerd friend @WesMantooth - you plan around it, to the point that your spouse thinks you ..... should reprioritize.

But she doesn’t expect it because she understands your connectivity to the team and the sport. So she looks the other way when you yell ..... or toss a remote ..... or tell the story for the 400th time about how you were in Assembly Hall when Bob threw the chair in February 1985 against Purdue.

    It’s a way of life.

Only one beer tonight because I’m taking my beautiful bride out to dinner tonight to celebrate our anniversary, this is Topless Wytch from Three Floyds, an excellent Baltic Porter.

The pour is a pretty mahogany brown with a sudsy tan head. It’s beautiful, but the look is more of a barleywine than a porter, IMHO. The nose, though, resides in Porterville, with chocolate and roasted coffee notes up front, and sweet molasses and stone fruit notes mixed in.

The chocolate and roasted coffee notes are also forward on the taste, but the molasses flavors elevate this a couple of steps, IMHO. There’s also some stone fruit, which brightens this a bit and doesn’t allow it to get too sweet.

    Three Floyds crushed this, IMHO.

Hi everyone, spent most of my day working on the house. De-construction is what took place today, which is always a fun stage.

Found some 150 year old heart pine under a layer of wall to wall carpeting from the 70’s, particle board and tar paper.
Thrilled that they put a nail every 10 inches to insure the particle board wasn’t going anywhere.

I know this is not the construction thread, but it’s somewhat relevant. My wife gave me permission to make this into my bar. Hopefully put together pre-summer.

After the crawling around pulling out nails I headed out for some Corned Beef and a few brews.

First is Shamrock Shakedown from Four Quarters.
Pour is hazy and creamy looking, covered by a tight off white foam.

Aroma is full of sweet tropical fruit and rich vanilla.

Flavor has lots of candied pineapple, juicy citrus and a hint of grapefruit zest over an earthy and deep fresh vanilla.

Body is creamy and smooth with a bit under moderate carbonation.

Overall an interesting brew. Not too “Milkshake”. I could see some that are against lactose/etc. to find some enjoyment.

Hope everyone is having a nice St. Patty’s Day!

Phew! What a win for my Spartans! Looking forward to the momentum in the next couple weeks.
Next beer is again from @kemoarps who just clobbered me. I’ve been drinking out of the box he sent all week and I don’t think I’m even halfway through!

12 ounce can, dated 12/11/18. Poured into tulip glass.
Pours a deep orange, just off white head. Some chill haze but poured out of the can crystal clear. Rings and spots of lacing. Well presented beer.
Aromas of grapefruit, resiny, weed, onion/garlic going on.
Classic west coast. Grapefruit, orange pith, pine tree finish. Still some of that garlic and weedy notes at the end.
Thick syrupy mouthfeel at first which leads to a lighter finish.
This beer packs a huge hop punch. I usually don’t care for the big resiny/weed beers but the citrus hop profiles help to balance some of that out.

Great APWA. Great rocky head retention/thick soapy lacing. Aromas and flavors of big lemon, lime, orange, red grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, red apple, citrus peel/rind, wood, mint, dill, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate wheat, cracker, white bready malts; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus carbonation, light-medium body, and moderately crisp/clean finishing. Balanced bready/grainy wheat, sticky hops, and light resins/rinds in the mouthfeel. Moderate increasing bitter dryness, no hop astringency. very flavorful/refreshing, not watery for 4.2%. Millennium, Hallertau, Cascade, Saaz, & Saphir. Extremely vibrant, dank, and earthy balanced hop complexity; with a great clean pale/wheat malt backbone. Minimal residual sweetness from crisp dryness. I guess most people just don't like APWA, I loved it. 4.03

Greetings from NOLA! I have had a conference all weekend (who schedules that?) but managed to escape and snag a few new local/regional beers. I've had some great local brews down here in the last few days, and the only new beer left in my room fridge is this beauty from Hattiesburg, MS. Full disclosure: I am a big fan of Southern Prohibition ("SoPro") and they have IMO put out some world class beers over the past few years. This one is a DDH IPA clocking in at 8.1% ABV:

Nice looking with a very hazy, bright golden color and a thick white head that left impressive lacing in the glass. The aroma was there right as I cracked the can open, with a mix of dank resin and tropical fruit. The taste followed the nose. I always seem to taste pineapple which was here, along with mango and orange. I love beers with a mix of pine or resin with fruit and this one is wonderfully dank. Medium bodied, fairly soft, and with a clean, dry finish. Overall, a fantastic beer as expected. Cheers, BAs!

As promised, here’s one from @CanConPhilly that keeps growing on me as I drink.

    Tickle Parts from Levante Brewing

Pours a dark, murky, opaque, turbid golden orange with a huge off white, orange tinged head that hangs around for about 5 minutes. On the nose we have big pineapple (a personal favorite), grapefruit, mango, dank resinous weedy notes, and maybe some yeast peaking through at the end. More of the same on the taste, although subdued from what the nose would lead you to believe. Also there’s a pretty nice hoppy, yeasty burn at the end. Mouthfeel is pretty medium, soft, minimal prickly carb bubbles, spot on for style. Overall this is good, not great. But I love it because of the name and the epic nose. 4.13 Thanks Matt!
