ST. LOUIS (March 15, 2012) – Just in time for the warm weather months, Shock Top Belgian Wheat introduces its latest seasonal beer, Shock Top Lemon Shandy, which will be available March 19 through the end of July.

Shock Top Lemon Shandy is a unique interpretation of a classic style – a refreshing and smooth wheat beer perfectly complemented by spices and natural lemonade flavor. At 4.2% ABV, Lemon Shandy will be available nationwide in six- and 12-packs of bottles and 12-packs of cans, as well as on draught.

“For years, brewers around the world have experimented with fruit-flavored beer mixers, like shandys and radlers, which have been popular concoctions in Britain and Germany,” said Jill Vaughn, brewmaster for Shock Top. “When the temperatures start to warm up, you appreciate the added level of refreshment a lemonade flavor can bring to your beer, and Shock Top’s citrusy base provided the ideal starting point for creating this new recipe. We definitely stayed true to Shock Top’s wheat beer essence, while crafting a new flavor for adults to enjoy this summer.”

The introduction of Lemon Shandy marks the first seasonal rollout for the Shock Top family in 2012. In 2011, Shock Top rolled out its first year-round line extension with Shock Top Raspberry Wheat, and its first seasonal with Shock Top Pumpkin Wheat. Year-round offering Shock Top Wheat IPA was introduced in February 2012. As the Shock Top family expands, it continues to grow in popularity, up more than 142% in 2011.

Shock Top Belgian White is an award-winning Belgian-style unfiltered wheat ale, with a naturally cloudy and light golden color. Shock Top Belgian White is brewed with orange, lemon and lime peels and coriander, giving it a refreshing, smooth taste and a citrusy aroma.

I think a collaboration is needed. Shock top summer shandy, and Coors ice tea need to get together.

Hope it's better than Leinenkugel's Summer Shitty, I mean shandy...not that I'm much into these types of things but I'm always up for a try and someone left this stuff behind last summer and it was a lemonadey disaster HORRID stuff, drink a Mike's Hard you savage's don't make another shitty beer. Nothing could be as ridiculous as Michelob Ultra's fruity abominations to beerdom...pomegranate raspberry?? I have to say that Michelob's name has been forever sullied by AB, the one-time premium name in their line-up is now a catch all for their weak craft and even weaker crap "beers."

+1 that Leine's Summer Shandy is a disaster.

As for Shock top Lemon Shandy...it will be ignored like all the rest of the "craft beers" that have an orange with a mow-hawk as their logo/mascot.

Or you could buy a can of lager and mix it 50:50 with a can of Sprite / 7 up and voila you have a REAL shandy.... (and probably twice as much for the same cost.)

Oh and shandy is a ladies drink as said above.

Do the lemons used to make these come from the ones Budweiser executives have been sucking on after seeing their latest market share drop?

"crafting a new flavor for adults to enjoy this summer." Wait! New Flavor!! Something interesting I bet......oh, uh.....lemon? Wow, Shock Top. Breaking new ground by making your beer taste like lemonade. SHHHOCKING!!! :astonished:

It's actually brilliant marketing. There's lots of people who enjoy icy cold lemonade and icy cold, easy drinking beer with little to no flavor when it's hot outside. Now they can have both in one cheap, easy to drink, easy to make, mass produced, over marketed, pseudo-craft beer. Plus, people love looking at fruit slices with sunglasses and mohawks!!! It's genius!

These guys are innovators. I mean, what other brewery offers beer with flavors like orange or lemon or raspberry or pumpkin!? These guys use coriander!!! Does any other brewery do that? And now they're adding natural lemonade flavor. I wonder if they age the beer in lemonade barrels or maybe they grow they're own lemonade trees in the AB warehouses.

Guess the stores will have to clear some more shelving space for this one. Just take away the Dogfish Head, Allagash, Flying Dog, Brooklyn, Founder's and whatever other descent craft beers that might be kicking ass in the market these days. Dicks!!!

Not that I'm bitter, or anything. LOL
