I wont spend $100 on a beer, but if someone else does I have no problem with it. Everyone has to decide what they should do with their money. I have spent $20 on a 750 ml and many AAL beer drinkers might think I am crazy for doing that. Anyways, HF can charge what they want and we as consumers decide wether or not we will buy it. I am guessing their are plenty of people around the globe that would think it was insane for me to spend over a thousand dollars a year on beer and bourbon.

This is a valid question, and I don't think the line increases with a $200 price point but I also don't think it decreases at all either. Ann is a status symbol in craft beer. Some of the best cellars don't have a bottle. The crowds that gathered last year when Ann was announced onsite should be an indication. The desire has only grown. I think there will be a very high return rate on winner's picking up bottles, you know unless some clown from Bakersfield entered for no reason. I'd guess unclaimed bottles will be redrawn? In any case, I don't think $100 is outrageous but I can see how someone can and does. And I don't fault them for it.

Are we really still going on about Ann 750ml being $100? You have to go out of you way to get a bottle. If your not interested, you have nothing to worry about, even three of the four pick up days the tap room is closed and it won't even effect the pour line. If you aren't interested in Ann, Be happy. You don't have to enter the raffle, you don't have to take a day of work off, and you don't have to trek to the NEK on a non taproom day.

...............Lets talk about Of first and last things.

What a beautiful IPA. The way Shaun Hill works Nelson into his beers is magic. First sip OFALT I get a simcoe blast to the palat, but as soon as you pull your glass away the nelson takes the front and the way he rolls nelson into the light bitterness at the end is a thing of beauty. You get a similar experience in his Nelson, and double nelson IPA. But the hops work so well together in this beer that is stands out to me.

I always like to check out with Edward when I go up, but I think the growlers are staying home. Gonna load up on cans. So many good cans up there this week SS 5 and 9 are both great. Curious about Nelson late harvest pale. (might need a growler for this though, as its a holdover, and cans could be gone)

    E. I've never had E. Would you guys say E. is closer to Sue, or Juicy. I have to be honest, I was not a big fan of the batch of Juicy I had (2018 375ml) It had a refreshing fist sip, but the back end and after taste were off for me.

    Hi,

    Why is the Taproom closed?

I enjoy Of First and Last Things a lot too. Really balanced and easy going, but still loaded with layers of hop flavor.

IMO E. is more similar to Sue. Same residual hop flavors and tartness balanced by earthy wood barrel.

Anyone who wins the Ann lottery is a lucky bastard.

But anyone who wins the Ann lottery and ends up in line behind an actual guy named Mike Smith and gets front row seats to the butthurt that ensues as he tries to claim his bottle and is super confused why everyone hates him, is the luckiest BA alive.

This sub-thread delivers gold month in and month out.

I agree- First and Last is one of my favorites too and I have really enjoyed all the Nelson hopped IPAs from HIll-I also happen to be a big Nelson fan in general. Hill definitely does them better than most. I have also really enjoyed Bright with Nelson from TH- I wish they would do a Bright with Nelson and Simcoe.

Right? If half my beer purchases were Bud Light (actual Bud Light purchases are $0) I would not come close to being under 1K.

Whenever I give my wife grief about anything financial she does she pulls out the, "let's look at your beer purchases". Auto win for her, immediately.

Very true for me as well. Though I have my personal account which stays a little out of her sight line.

Pfffffft I am going to the pick up days just to record this. Epic shit is gonna go down.

Irony in all this? I know a cat named Mike Smith who I;ve gotten a house with for FoFA for the last two years so I would not be in the least bit surprised if he entered the lottery.

Yahhhhhh, my wife got into Photography. Fuck that shit is expensive.

Yeah, me too. Now I pour her something in the 4.25 range and she looks at me like I’m a jerk, but still gets mad if she sees a receipt!
    (Jk, she’s the best)

Don’t forget your propane tank. Might still be a little chilly.

That’s my wife’s retirement plan. Hope she’s good enough to support both of us, as I will be broke from buying too many $100 bottles of beer.

If Bubbles from 'Trailer Park Boys' (whose actual name is Mike Smith) showed up to claim his bottle of Ann during the pickup window, I would not be at all mad -even if he used the methods outlined in this thread to "cheat the system."

I think that a better way to conduct the initial entry phase of the lottery would have been to ask each of the applicants to provide address, date of birth, and credit card information during the registration process, with a small donation being made to a local charity of HF's choosing (let's say $5, like they did for the CW application) upon completion. This would have eliminated any potential Mike Smith scenarios.

I have not personally contacted Universe to inquire about the specifics of the registration or drawing process, but I find it interesting that everyone assumes the Ann release will be a fair lottery. Without the proper conditions for a fair lottery, the Mike Smith argument is a moot point.
