This thread has taken an unforeseen and hitherto new pivot into some bizarre fan fiction mating ritual genre....

 

Learned some info this weekend. Was told 12 variants this year, expect the favorites from the last few years to return. I asked about Handjee, FVM and Chemtrail. The rep smiled and said it would be stupid of them not to. Was also told to expect a name change on Handjee this year.
They sold 1000 more tickets online this year. As always in person will happen because they have to keep something for the locals.
Merch will be moved to inside the starting pin on the south side.
They are trying something this year to help with some of the crazy lines the timed tapping caused but I did not get more details on that.

I took the 9AM bus last year, I want to say I officially stepped foot in the festival about 20 after 10? Relatively quick ride, and our driver actually missed the exit for 3 Floyds and we took a little detour, but definitely still got there early enough that I was able to grab Chemtrail on tap still when it went on at 10AM.

You really can take whatever bus you choose on the way home, I took an earlier bus than what I had scheduled, granted, new year and maybe new rules. On the way back I don't recall them checking my digital ticket, driver just looked to see that I had the wristband for the Green Street shuttle on.

I hope to see a return of a BA Dark Lord with Coffee... in 2015, the Cognac BA Dark Lord with Coffee was on par with VBDL/Handjee in my opinion. I know some of the other variants have had coffee since, but I'd like to see a coffee only DL variant this year.

 

Alright, screw it. If we're assuming 12 variants...

Likely- Handjee, Chemtrailmix, Bourbon/Rye barrel, Muerte/other pepper variant, FVM since they've done it 3 years in a row, scotch so we can all get Turtledogged again.

That still leaves 6, probably 3 of which are bullshit in wine barrels. Guesses?

I say embrace the soy sauce. Ginger, garlic and thai bird chiles in a sake barrel.

 

Honestly, the wine barrel variants are really good. The fruity wine barrel notes really compliment the flavor and sweetness of Dark Lord. I was pretty skeptical before I tried one but was totally surprised, and the idea of DL being aged in wine barrels started to make a lot more sense to me.

 

Dark Lord al Pastor: brewed with guajillo and ancho chiles, aged on grilled pineapple

 

The wine barrels tend to have a dry finish too which is actually a plus.

Dark Lord aged on hot dogs in mustard barrels. this one's called French's Baloney Pony.

Dark Lord with cacao nibs aged in CBD oil barrels....

 

Definitely depends on the type of wine. Muscat and similar dessert wine barrels are just awful (see: FVM 17)
