I’m assuming you keep them cold, at which point you should be fine. I had one Saturday night that was kept in a fridge the entire time and it was fine. A little muted on the candy peanut butter but no contamination.

Yeah been sitting in my fridge since purchase. Emailed them a little while ago and will let everyone know what they say regarding the stout when I hear back.

In all honesty, I've learned the hard way over the years to not buy the first batch of anything a new brewery puts out.

    And...

haha. I get that now and then.

Henry and Fran is a reference to a street corner in Fallujah Iraq. We chose the name to reference where we came from and as a homage to others. To give a point of reference Fran is the street that the blackwater incident in 2004 started on. There is also a map posted to instagram with an X.

Often when I'm naming something it is a book reference; but there is also a subtext or personal meaning being it. For instance, I have a recipe with pine that is a reference to my mom. When I was in Iraq I had some trouble sleeping, and my mother made a pillow out of pine needles for me so when I laid down I could have some sort of comfort of home. I named it after a book she read to me as a child

@henryandfran tell us more about the new taproom. Staying in West Boylston?

West Boylston is our home. We are staying. The lease is signed and we're just waiting on federal approval and and some other permitting. The exciting part for me isn't just opening but being able to start our wild and mixed fermentation stuff when that happens. I don't use Brett in our current space.

Hate to say it but I'm done with these guys. Pleasingly Wreakless lived up to its name and detonated, tried to launch into orbit sometime in the last few days. Dont have the fridge space so I have to cellar my bottles, which is less than ideal but this shouldn't be an issue. Luckily it didn't take out any neighboring bottles with it. After the infected bowling balls and now this, I'm out.

Tough to tell what's going on in that pic.

Did the bottom blow out, or was it a gusher when you opened it?

Bottom blew out, bottle rocketed up and stuck itself in the underside of the shelf above. Turns out the cap just snagged on a lip on the underside, and it did not in fact embed itself in the shelf, which admittedly would have been more exciting

Went on Saturday to the red shed, my first time. Picked up 2 four packs of Pleasant Surprise and 2 growlers of Stars. The Stars growler was very good, solid IPA. Bitter and juicy. I was pleased. I cracked open a can of Pleasant Surprise last night and immediately noticed the color was a little off. Smell was super malty like butterscotch. Reminded me of early batches of Captain's Daughter IPA. Taste was almost undrinkable. I was so disappointed. I haven't opened another can yet. Praying this was just a bad fill from the end maybe? Wishful thinking? Anyways - the reviews on Untapped out of this world but we cannot be drinking the same beer. I know taste is relative but this was terrible. Wanted to see if anyone else experienced this or if possibly I had a bad can.

Well, I'm sorry that happened to you. On this batch specifically, I canned every single can. So ultimately its my responsibility.

To answer your question more in depth. There are any number of things that could've happened. Some times when packaging, a single can or two could have a higher amount of dissolved oxygen than another. But without seeing the beer or tasting etc; I really wouldn't be able to give you any sort of reliable and honest answer to what you picked up. If you have pics or experience the same issue, you're more than welcome to email [email protected]. cheers~Zach

I finally had some henry and fran stuff at EBF and the gose was good, but i wish they brought some of their stouts. Though looking at this thread it seems theres a lot of infection issues lately.
I look forward to this brewery actually getting a place so i dont have to buy tickets on eventbrite if i happen to come across the link in time. I'd like to judge the this place on more than 2oz of a gose but less than $100 of bottles and growler fills.

I was really pulling for these guys and have enjoyed many of their offerings but have been disappointed with their stouts.

I've been to many releases and between exploding cans of Skittles, a couple different infected stouts and needing to buy package deal tickets, I'll just wait for their taproom to open.

Also, I disliked the BA Pleasantly Wreakless released on Saturday. I usually like the BA version of most stouts better, but I had no interest in finishing this one as it became very thin with an unpleasant smell. Just my opinion.
