My friend and I who are hard to organize time together found a window across June or July to plan a beer trip. Since it will be a long weekend instead of a week or something, we decided on Richmond. Our initial thoughts are going there for the cliche places; Answer, Veil, Triple Crossing and Final Gravity, but, are there any fun annual events or festivals that happen in those months that we could plan a trip around or are we better off just coming out and ubering all around the place?

Beyond that, what are the most stop food spots?

    Thanks in advance

If you're stopping by Answer and want to know food spots, Mekong next door. Great food and generally an impressive taplist too.

I can’t think of any big weekend events in June/July that you would want to schedule around. Veil’s Forever Summer is usually in August I think.

Any old weekend should be good, Richmond (and the south-atlantic coast in general) can get opressively hot and humid in the summer and it gets worse as summer progresses, so maybe June would be better than July.

I personally think Mekong has pretty terrible food. Believe me I enjoy Vietnamese food and beer so I wish this wasn’t true but every time I give them another chance I am hugely disappointed. I’m pretty much done with them at this point.

Thanks, @beernuts, I was reading what you wrote, stopped when I saw the Forever Summer, looked up past years events and was all set to delay the trip til August, then kept reading about heat and backed out haha

Nothing on my radar either for any big beer releated events in June or July but just as with what @beernuts said, any weekend is a good weekend in RVA when you have the 4 breweries you mentioned which are my exact Top 4 favorites in the area. I would also throw Basic City into the mix as what I have had from them is really good especially their IPAs and the first couple beers to come out of the RVA location have been well done as well.

Starr Hill is supposed to be opening their Scott's Addition location sometime this summer. Their beers are solid but nothing a trip needs to be planned around though. Just going to be a very cool spot with roof top patio and bar.

The festival won't happen until August and it will be in Charlottesville (I think) as it has been for the past couple years but the Virginia Craft Beer Cup winners are typically announced in early/mid June so you should know what breweries in RVA have won medals by the time you come.

I'm visiting in a few weeks, is there a post with a good list of places to visit?

There are a fair number of good suggestions in this thread. I know that I used that with a couple of other BAs (and longtime college friends) when we visited last summer.

For brunch, I HIGHLY recommend Lunch & Supper and LuLu's!

@Kraz definitely this ^^. Also, if you are into BBQ then a stop at ZZQ in Scott's Addition is a must as well.

@Kraz The Veil just announced an event happening June 29th if you are still weighing weekends to make the trip. Guest beers from Other Half, Trillium and Omnipollo. Check out the post on their social media or the dedicated Veil thread in this forum for details.
