Wife enjoys lots of darker beers and we share often, but really doesn't care for any bourbon barrel aged stuff. However she loved funky buddha rum barrel beer I got as an extra some time ago.

Can anyone suggest a few good Rum Barrel Aged beers? I heard they are harder to find since rum barrels are often used multiple times and are a lot harder to come by for beer aging.

Prairie's Pirate Paradise and Pirate Noir are pretty great

I second the suggestion of Prairie's Rum BA stuff. I would also recommend New Holland Dragon's Milk Rum Cococut Reserve variant. Not sure when it was last released but shouldn't be too difficult to obtain. Same with Tyranena's Coco Poco and Central Waters Rum Coconut Porter which you won't find in CA but should both be pretty easy trades with a Wisconsinite.

Hope you and your wife like coconut with your rum because looks like all my recs have it!

Some stores that get good distro might have a few laying around, they released at some point last year. New Holland's Rum stuff is also solid as the poster above me suggested.

Cycle makes some good ones.. RareR Dos, DBRRRR, Caribbean Rum Coconut Porter. I also liked Rum Ten Fidy a couple of years ago. One that is local to me that is very good is Aardwolf's Rum White Russian. And, as previously discussed, Pirate Noir is also very good.

You mentioned dark beers, so am not sure this is on point for you. However, even though I'm not a big sour fan, would recommend Cascade's tangerine dream.

I found some feedback and it seems like Cycle probably makes some of the most consistent ones. Now all I need to do is find a good "cycle" trader..

I actually enjoy sours from time to time, but the wife hates them so that's why we are focused on dark "rum" goodness.

hahah funny you mention that. I think I had a bottle a while ago and enjoyed it, but she hated it because it was just too boozy. I think it was around 14% and seemed like it had a full shot of rum added to the bottle.

An easy trade would be Jolly Russian from Odell. A straight rum ba stout. Hovers around 13% and I remember it being pretty smooth. Should be fairly easy to acquire . UT shows a 4.25 avg.

Well I can understand that completely. It’s a heavy hitter. I would second Tyranena Coco Poco and Pirate Bomb - very nice and very approachable.

Bellwoods seems to be getting very limited and sporadic US distribution. Skeleton Key is good.

Do you know if it's always available? I have family in CO and I get out their a few times a year. Last visit I brought back some BA Eugene that I thought was great.
