Based on your post, I cracked a BA Jones Dog (fall 2018 vintage) last night.

Mine had not gone "bad". However, I noticed less vanilla & cacao and way more oak than when it was fresh. It had not improved with age.

I think after 20 odd months in these barrels, 'drink fresh' might be the best course of action with these Pipeworks stouts. Especially after the BA Murderous incident...

I have had BA Jones Dog 2-3 years after release and thought it to be as good as when fresh...and I'm someone who likes the boozy aspect of the PW BA stouts.

That doesn't mean I think your take on the bottle you had is wrong, but just wanted to mention my experience as well.

We stuffed a handful of torch roasted mini marshmallows with some maple syrup into a bottle of BA Abduction last night. Recapped and laid on its side in the fridge for 45 minutes, turning it every 10 or 15. It was phenomenal and I highly recommend everybody give this a shot. Imagine a maple pastry-stout version of Abduction. It was absolutely delicious.

I’m kind of surprised more people don’t do this and/or talk about it. I did a French press of BCBS regular with Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal and it was better than all of the 2018 variants imo. I also really enjoyed a blend of regular BA 1050 with death by coconut. No lines, no limits, no trading, no secondary values....and the beer ended up tasting excellent

Serious question: do you think torching the marshmallows was necessary in your example?

Why stop there? Id just pour the BCBS in a bowl of French toast crunch and eat it like any others cereal.

First of all, are you in the French Pressing Beer Guild on facebook? Its an awesome group. But to answer your question, yes. I think torching everything is kind of important. We have used graham crackers before and we torched those as well. The heat will release some of the oils and that will definitely help impart a stronger flavor.

Also I have French pressed cinnamon toast crunch with BCBS 18 too and it is incredible. My favorite recipe so far is toasted marshmallow and graham, maple syrup, and half stick of cinnamon. I haven't started playing with vanilla extract yet, but I really look forward to it.

It's obvious where this is going. Why don't you guys just pour it over a scoop of ice cream, add chocolate sauce, whip cream, peanuts, and a maraschino cherry and call it a day.

Not gonna lie, I was eating the abduction soaked marshmallows out of the mesh strainer we used to filter.

since you used the original bottle i assume you poured out a bit of abduction to fit all the adjuncts you threw in, correct? any reason you would use the original bottle instead of a coffee press or container to let it sit?

Less carb loss / oxygenation and you can recap it is my guess...

Bingo. We've learned that keeping the bottle on its side is important to expose as much of the liquid to the adjuncts as possible. We also turn it every 15 minutes. Theres this $4 cork thing from Binnys that we use, it creates an air tight seal. We used to use a recapper but this bottle cork thing has been way more convenient.

Whoever said that drinking BA Jonesies is better to do fresh- I completely disagree. A BA Jones Dog with 3 or so years on it is some of the best liquid I have ever put into my mouth.

'twas me...and back in the 12oz bottle days, I would agree with you wholeheartedly.

However, regarding the 2018 release, this batch has not gotten better over the last 6 months, and to my palate is worse (though certainly not awful), and with recent batches of their BA beers going full Walking Dead, I'd be wary of sitting on 'em 3+ years.

This is one idiot's opinion, obviously, and I'm not a brewer OR a scientist, but my recent experiences say DRINK THAT SHIT NOW!

I've been very wrong many times, so take this all with a boulder-sized grain of salt.

Agreed.....opened up both batch 209 and 403/404 in the last couple of months and both were reminiscent of chocolate milk!

Picked up Infinite Galaxy which read as 05/04/19 so either my eyes are terrible (quite possible), this store's delivery was intended for international distro (possible) or these cans were packaged in the future (most likely). I'm enjoying the preview, PW. Another (soon to be) great IG batch.
