-> Poll #17<- determined that the percentage of Brown Malt (~60L) would be 6%, and thus the percentage for Golden Promise will be 78.5%.

This poll will determine recommended Mash Temperature. After that, we'll determine recommended Mash Length. These will be "recommended" because YMMV when it comes to making a wort with the attenuability needed to hit this recipe's numbers, so some may need different mash parameters. That said, the recommended numbers will be at least a starting place for less experienced brewers.

I recommend you think about this in terms of the parameters needed to hit apparent attenuation between 76% and 77% with the grain bill and yeast strain already selected, and in terms of any recommended mash length that might be knocking around your grey matter.

When this poll is done, I will look at the data a few different ways to determine the central tendency. It may or may not be as simple as a plurality would indicate. There may or may not be a runoff. It all depends on the data. Want a temperature not listed? Write it in.

This poll will be open for 48 hours.

If you have issues with or suggestions for methodologies used in this project, please send them via private message. Let's keep the threads themselves on topic to the question at hand and not about how you would have asked the question differently. Votes from anyone trolling the thread are null and void.

In my experience, this yeast is a high attenuator, which motivated me to vote 154.

I went with my "default" 152 because that is what I almost always do. But, I have never used this yeast. Anyone else besides @pweis909 with prior experience?

My fermentation data from batches with WY1469 were lost. I recall @JackHorzempa discussing its capacity for attenuation in an old thread. Perhaps he can remind us of his experience with the strain.

I use 1469 to ferment my annual batch of Bitter Ale, My last batch was:
    • OG: 1.048
    • FG: 1.009
    Cheers!

Jack, a few related questions, if you have information handy:
    • What percentage of crystal malt?
    • Any highly fermentable sugars?
    • How did you mash? (single infusion? temp(s)? times).

I too have gotten fairly high attenuation from 1469. Usually around 80% when mashed at 150*F.

Either of you guys have any input on a mash schedule you'd set up for the grain bill on this Brown Ale?
Fiddling with temp and time in BrewCipher I got it to hit the OG/FG/Attenuation(76.7%) with 153° for 75 minutes, 11.18 lbs fermentables.

I have not been following these Brown Ale threads so I have no input here.

    Cheers!

I'm getting 155*F for 60 minutes at 1.5qts/#. I have the attenuation factor in Brewcipher set to 82 for 1469.

I'm guessing you did that in the YEASTLOOKUP tab?
I changed the factor there to 82, plugged in your temp, time and qts/lb and get 76.2% Predicted Apparent Attenuation. Is that close to what you got?
Not questioning your method, but my manipulations.

That is exactly what I got. When I set that beer to 150 it hit 79.7% which is in line with where I would expect that yeast to stop on that grain bill. 155 falls to 1.013 FG.
