After my third bottle all I could taste was onion...scared to open the two bottles I have left lol. I heard people say they get onion flavors in other IIPAs (lagunitas sucks was one) but I've never picked them up or at least not been smacked in the face with them until now. Hopefully in a week or two my palate will come around

Precisely why I hated Ruthless Rye (two rows of them still sit in my fridge)

    Exactly what I was thinking.

    A four pack? That blows.

I forgot what a big DIPA this is. Slick, resiny, stick to your tongue hops all over the place at 10.4%! Glad to hear SN will be producing/releasing this on a quarterly basis. Love the 4 pks! They should make a cologne in this scent. HOPTIMUSK is what it should be called!

I had a chance to try PtY at a local joint about 2-3 weeks ago and I had this hoptimum last night and damn... I couldn't get over how similar they were. I think Hoptimum is a bit more bitter and PtY had a bit more fruity aroma,,, but man... I am with you that if someone served me hoptimum and told me it was PtY, I wouldn't have noticed.

I am excited to try hoptimum. My brother is visiting this weekend and is bringing 2 4-packs. I really enjoy torpedo, Bigfoot, and celebration (ruthless was just ok).

Just picked up two 4 packs today, along with a 4 pack of Torpedo cans. It's gonna be a good weekend!

Thank you B-zus! I picked up a 4 pack not knowing how limited it is, can't drink it until Easter and I was worried about freshness issues, but I'll just pick up some more after Easter!

I also agree with this. I do like many of their seasonal hoppy offerings but I do find some of their beers to heavy on the hop astringency and light on flavor/aroma. I only had hoptimum once when it came around last year so I can't comment about that one. Torpedo is a prime candidate for criticism though. Where's the hop flavor and aroma. Seems to be a bit bitter and astringent without much else going on.

The only idea I can come up with so far is that some companies are using that majority of the hops toward the begging of the boil. Then not using enough for flavor and aroma towards the end of the boil. I think this is to cut corners on cost of ingredients and also to extend to shelf life of the beer. Quality goes downhill rather quickly for top tier big ipa's like pliny and heady topper the longer you wait to drink them.

Where in the bay area have you been able to find the Hoptimum on tap?

It was at the Rose & Crown in Palo Alto, seems like they got multiple kegs so it might still be there. I'd be surprised if it isn't around somewhere else.

Love this beer, have a 1/6 barrel I'll probably tap tomorrow or Sunday.

I'll never forget my wife drinking 4 pints of this last year and being hungover for two days straight.

I finally got it in N.H. I love paying $8.99 for a four pack of high octane IPAs. Pretty sure I paid same amount for the big bottle last year. Going to be my go to DIPA now.

Just had my first one of this years batch yesterday. My goodness it is dank. I literally taste the hop oils and resin all over my pallet. And I mean that in the best possible way. Cant wait to have another one tonight.
