I would buy that DDL brew....maybe put it in a 40 oz grenade size bottle - oh wait, that is a different thread! I have been to Walden pond many times and walked in Henry's footsteps, and been to his Maine Woods, and paddled his Concord and Merrimack rivers, and sunk my toes in deep Cape Cod sandy beaches....would he approve of his books next to beer glasses in my dining room? Yes....I do think so!

These are not thin, but they are a bit pretty and functional. -from my father’s set of four from ~1960

Damn, thats the set I completely busted up. They were nice, and they died doing their job. I wish I would have just put them up.

Oh for sure. Love to pick up old bar “tap” glasses. The glass you used to get when you would order a tap. Usually trademarked with brewery that owned the taps. Talk about thick glass!
New thing for me is collecting bottle/can openers give by breweries to bars. Trademarked and many stamped “Not for resale”. Worse things I could be up to.

Ah, it never hurt me (well, maybe 25¢-$1 at a time, despite the "Not for Resale" embossing).
They weren't just given to bars, but to off-premise retailers, too, by the box --- back when you needed one to open a can or a bottle. "Not for resale" was because the brewery wanted the customer to have 'em for free and didn't want the store to make a profit off of what was supposed to be a freebie.
Got a hundred or so of them, too, but never heard 'em called "tap glasses" - usually called by the terminology in that AB chart above or similar.

Not particularly thick compared to the ugly, heavy "shaker pints" of today.

    Holy Crap!!! :astonished:
But, the various bar glasses of old were thick to fool the customer into thinking they were getting more beer than they actually were. At least the original shaker glasses were thick for rugged service survival in the bar. Now, tho'.... maybe for the same reason as the older one...

Well, I suppose we'd have to specify which style glass - lots of mugs with those "hollow" bases - yeah. But the "sham" on a sham pilsner was there for stability, I'd say. And footed pilsners and other stemmed glasses? Not particularly thick, either. (I'll go break out my digital micrometer if need be ).

The "Shaker pint" was designed to be the glass half of a cocktail shaker, not a drinking vessel. Certainly the non-16 oz. ones with the same outer dimensions but thicker bottoms sure seem to have been designed for deception but you'd have to ask Libbey. (Think there's a 12 oz-er with similar dimensions, too?)

Funny thing about it, that photo was taken around 1981... (with a camera, not a phone.) Also, before eBay. Actual collection hasn't grown much larger, tho' - maybe 10-20%?)

As old as I can remember from my dads old bar and I’m 62. How old I haven’t a clue, it’s a Dolphin bottle opener. I broke all the glasses over the years , amazing I haven’t lost this.

I have a couple of these mugs which seem pretty difficult to come by. I bought them when they were issued but I don't use them often since they hold 24 ounces.
