The next horchata stout I like will be the FIRST horchata stout I ever liked.

If rice was part of the malt bill then it would be much closer to it.

Hows everyone feeling about today's release? Smaller batch or big enough to find some in the wild?

A handful of people I know who go after every BL release are sitting this one out, myself included. But I don't know if that speaks to a majority of BL fans. I've just had Duende enough times to know how I feel about it and can allocate that beer money elsewhere. And my guess is it will hit distro in some capacity.

I’m sitting it out. Was not a fan of it at WoL. Tasted more like Red Hots than horchata.

I hope trade value plummets, I love this beer.

Tickets still available - I feel like this is the childhood scenario where some perfectly good food (beer) is going uneaten (consumed), meanwhile some starving (I’m not) kids in third world countries (Kansas) are going without.

Bought our WOL bottles. That's about it. Wasn't trying too hard for it.

Same, mainly because I know on tap never tastes anywhere close to bottle format so hoping this one follows suit.

I don't disagree but do you have a preference of one over the other?

Not Frosty, but I've accepted that BL beers taste way better from the bottle. The ice cream ones from last year (Something to Smile About and...I forgot) were GREAT when we popped the bottle. They were just okay from the tap.

About the only thing I liked from tap more so far was MAYBE Stronger than Fiction. Mostly due to me thinking StF was way too cloyingly sweet from the bottle...but that's with some time on it.

Only one I liked on tap better was PCC mainly because it was more blueberry forward, which is a pain in the ass fruit to use, but that's more a preference.

For me its usually a smoother barrel, or whatever is added just meshes better. I mean I don't mind trying the on tap stuff I just go into it thinking that the bottle isn't going to be the same. Way I see it is the bottles are what's going to last, and not forget traded out of state, so makes sense to have your best foot forward.

HA! I was the opposite, b1 StF I thought was muddled mess and traded my bottles to a buddy who missed out... only to completely regret 4 months later when he shared one.

For anybody that has had both, how does El Duende differ from RFI? I know that RFI has the FO base and El Deunde has DSN, but is that the only difference?
    I absolutely LOVED RFI.

I’d start by saying we don’t really know what this iteration of El Duende will be like - sounds like there have been several samplings over time at BL/BL events.

When I had El Duende at Extreme Beer Fest in LA (Dec 2017) the beer had what I will call “sweeter” cinnamon compared to the RFI’s “spiced” cinnamon or cassia bark. Include lactose in the El Duende and that could assist/cause my sweetness barometer to have kicked up. It says Ceylon cinnamon for El Duende - I’m too lazy to google that particular cinnamon versus cassia bark, but the description shows Ceylon to have “earthy” or “floral” notes.

El Duende doesn't taste like any horchata I've ever had. It tastes like candied cinnamon (red hots, hot tamales, big red etc.). I don't remember it tasting that way in November/December during the DSN release. Kinda bummed its a miss for me.

I actually found Roll for Initiative to veer dangerously close to Red Hots as well. BL needs to dial back the cinnamon a touch, especially with a horchata inspired beer where cinnamon should not be dominant.
