It's not a brewery, but Jace Marti (of Schell's and Starkeller fame) is one of the principals behind Black Frost Distilling, in planning for New Ulm. The focus will be on beet-rums and whiskeys that employ locally produced grains and vegetables and mixed culture fermentation. Sounds promising to me. "If all goes to plan,* construction should begin this spring with production beginning by the end of 2019."

    * And when has it ever not?

I've heard word of an as-yet-unnamed brewery in Fridley that could be open as soon as September. It previously was going to be called "Slobberhaus." At least under the old name, it was associated with a dog park concept, but I'm not sure if the dog park is still in the works.

Eastlake Craft Brewery in Minneapolis has expansion plans. I'm not yet sure if that's at the current, Midtown Global Market site or elsewhere.

Also, word is Schell's in New Ulm has purchased a new pilot system from a Swedish brewery.

It's not a brewery, but Wild State Cider opens on Tuesday in Duluth.

I see that Outstate Brewing in Fergus Falls has been mentioned in this thread and they have started construction on their building.

I haven't seen mention of another brewery going up in Fergus Falls, Fergus Brewing Co (website) - who are also currently building their brewery and plan to open this year.

That would make 3 breweries in Fergus Falls with Union Pizza & Brewing currently open.

Made a detour to Drastic Measures this past weekend and came away very impressed with the beer quality. Not a surprise. I've been a big fan of Brett their brewer/owner since my first stop at Disgruntled when they had just opened there. I was a big advocate of the work he was doing there and while I expected similar quality here you just never know how things might work out.

Every beer I had at Drastic Measures was top shelf. From a nicely made ESB, to an easy drinking clean malt forward golden ale called El Cheapo ($10 growlers), to an elite double milk porter with coconut to an equally elite double IPA called Ill Intent brewed with Mosaic and Galaxy hops.

I came away really impressed. Cool taproom and vibe too. Very reasonable pricing. Biggest issue is I don't have family to visit in Wadena like I do in Perham where Brett used to brew. Won't matter. I'll make the special trip to Wadena anyhow for beer like this.

If it's anything like the beer he had at Disgruntled. I'm in.

Anyone looking to try his beers with less of a drive can go to Hollywood Roadhouse west of the metro on Hwy 7. They had an IPA and a milk stout on as of a week ago. Both were terrific. The owner there drives to the brewery to pick up kegs.
